After viewing the recent 20-minute PAX gameplay preview, I noticed something. There are A LOT of different Nook Miles tasks, like a ton of them. Pretty much every aspect of the game looks to be covered, almost!

So I had a thought: what if your island's progression is based on completion of these Nook Miles tasks? Granted, time can also play a massive factor as well.

Just a thought I had, and figured I would share it.

It's an interesting thought. It also means that you could either unlock things quicker than previous games, or take longer than previous games. It just depends on how fast you choose to complete Nook Miles tasks.

Hmmm that could be a part of it. I can see that.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned time as well. They could still lock things behind time, to prevent this. But the reason why I got to thinking this in the first place was one of the Nook Miles tasks I saw.

"Rough-hewn"

"Island development is Nook Inc.'s goal. We need a lot of material to make that happen, so we're giving away Nook Miles based on how much wood you've chopped from trees."

I thought of that too.
Maybe we unlock the museum once we donate x amount of fish/bugs/fossils shown by what level you're at with the nook miles for each section.

OOOH! They went through the Nook Miles! All of the tasks in the scrolling menu are set tasks, but there are daily tasks in a different menu area by pressing I believe to be the + button, which brings you to the daily tasks.

This might support my thoughts on the set tasks being used for progression!

I honestly hope progression is this way. I like having goals to work towards in video games, and then getting unlocks for those. Waiting until a specific day feels so arbitrary. I don't feel like I necessarily earned that unlock, I'm just waiting until the game decides to unlock it for me.

It's not that I want things to go faster. I don't care if it takes about the same time or even a little bit longer for some things. But if you're doing stuff along the way, then it feels like YOU earned it.

Definitely would feel loads more rewarding, instead of just waiting 7, etc days and spending (amount) Bells.

I'm so excited for this seemingly huge amount of goals for progression. It makes daily play so appealing and hopefully eliminates the problem I always have of getting all my tasks done in town within an hour but wanting to play longer.

Yeah, I'm definitely excited if this is true as well. We can take it at our own pace, or just knock out a lot of them all at once.

If we keep having to cut down trees it will be hard to have a perfect town, if there is such a thing in NH, and wood gathering is an ongoing thing.

We can plant fruit trees to chop them down, and however many saplings they sell per day, but it doesn't leave much to landscape with.

I wonder if we gather wood from mystery tours, those trees would respawn.

Edit. Ah, you don't need to cut down the whole tree for wood.

I'm sure there are a bunch of easy ones that don't need much to complete and then some harder ones that probably will take a while, so it seems to be a good goal or progress system to implement into AC. I wonder how frequently they update, and if there will be some seasonal ones like "catch x amount of snowflakes"

They update daily, once you unlock Nook Miles+. You're given a set of daily Nook Miles tasks that refresh every day. The others are non renewable, and are set goals. Very possible there are seasonal tasks, though.

I never really liked the new leaf meow system but it sounds more wide ranging?
I'm not sure if I like that idea or hate it lol

I loved the MEOW system.
I got five every day from scanning an amiibo, several from Isabelle's daily tasks, and a crapload playing Desert Island Escape.

You know something? You could definitely be right! Everything you mention about the Nook Miles may just very well be how we progress the island. If this is the case, I'm no sure if I'll progress my island quickly or slowly. Hmmm, I may have to think about how I want to play now...

The thing that makes this hard for me to understand is how this works with more than one character per island. Does it hinge on who plays the most? Is it like NL where the first character made has more power than the others? >~>

This would be great, and I'm sure you're right--it's very likely at least a big part of it! It would be great because it would also allow people to progress at their own pace, rather than everyone being bound to the same restrictions. And, I guess since Nintendo doesn't seem to like time travelling, it would address that aspect too...

I always viewed the meow tickets as suggestions on what you could do. I usually flat out ignored them most of the time. I like the Nook Miles system a lot better so far because I see it as a more souped up version of the badges that Phineas gives you.

Definitely possible; I wouldn?t be upset at all if that were the case.

Just freeplaying is great in AC, but I think the added goals are a good way of incentivizing actions and keeping the game rewarding. Just because I enjoy the game without tasks doesn?t mean I don?t appreciate the sense of accomplishment that can come from them! It all building up toward Island progression makes for even more of a challenge :D
