I think pets would be such a nice addition to this game.

So I noticed that you can buy pet items in Animal Crossing and yet having actual pets is not something you can do in the game. I think this is a missed opportunity for a lot of funny villager interactions in the game. Animal Crossing New Horizons seems to be full of funny puns and humour so it would fit in with all of that really well. I don't think there should be a system in place for caring for pets and stuff like that, but it would be cool if they made a new character that opens a shop where you can buy all sorts of animals and have them running around in your home, or have the option to bring it outside and see it running around the island. Imagine if you bought a tiny golden retriever puppy, and then spoke to Goldie and she had the most hilarious shocked look and had the funniest things to say about it. I dont know, I just think it would be so damn hilarious if it was a feature in the game.

I'd love to have pets but I feel like there are a lot of morality issues with it haha. Though I guess we can have pet birds and hamsters in the game already (kinda).

it feels a bit wrong.... but you can fish up octopus and turtles... keep hamsters.... so idk
maybe for some of the bugs i guess idk...

I think that it would be very odd considering the villagers - unless it was limited to things like fish and bugs like how they display on the ground. For some reason the snapping turtle displays not in a terraruim and I know lot's of people (Myself included) have been placing them around like pets

I am keeping a snapping turtle I caught as a pet haha
Having a dog or a cat would be weird though.. imagine if a dog villager had a pet dog

I'm keeping my snapping turtle in the garden as a pet haha.

Well, in New Leaf you could scan the Nintendogs cards and get a sculpture of the dog.
Not exactly like a pet but close enough.
Right now, I have a few pet fish, a snail and a snapping turtle - I think it's really neat that he actually sits on the ground and hisses when you try to touch him.

Besides that, I don't know why people would complain about the "morality" of it.
It's a game. The game has a dog kennel (which I have in my back yard) that growls and has its eyes flash insinuating that there is a guard dog inside).
There's also a pet hamster and a bird in a cage and we obviously have hamster and bird villagers.
There's a cat tree, cat grass, a pet bed and a pet bowl - I don't really see much of an argument against having real pets that could just roam around our house and backyard.
Heck, I'd even buy a DLC pack for it.

the hamster "pet" already kinda weirds me out a bit personally considering the hamster villagers lmao.. i will be catching and keeping an extra snapping turtle as a pet though!

I think it would be very weird and uncomfortable. But it would be cool to have a functioning aquarium or terrarium.

Can you catch a snapping turtle in April in the northern hemisphere?
