Idea: A Mobile App For TBT

Hey there!

I’ve seen a lot of users who use the forums on a mobile device. While I know some use the forums on the computer, I personally do both! I always thought it would be nice to have a mobile app (like reddit in a sense since it is both a forum platform)! And yea I know a molbile app is hard to code and is not as easy as just plugging stuff in, but just wanted to run an idea by others!

Good point! I just find it could be a nice way for more people to get invested (for a lack of better words) in our community! Also it could be another way to get notifications if you are watching a thread or waiting for a pm! I know you get emails too, so maybe you can turn it off if you have the mobile app? I agree too that the mobile version is very clean, sorry if it came off as otherwise c:

There's a push notifications thing that can be added but IOS doesn't support web push notifications atm.

oh i didn't think you were implying anything haha, just pointing out that i don't think we need another mobile option. i certainly wouldn't be against an app but i don't think it would be worth all the time and effort, and money needed to hire programmers. i do think notifications are a good idea! the emails don't always come in right away. but i don't think it's worth a whole app.

Yea! I personally don’t check my email often since this account is linked to my spam email. I agree that it would take a lot of time! I don’t code or anything so.. anyway, I’m glad I got to hear more ideas!

I'm not against the idea of an app but this is basically my take on it. The mobile version is just SO good already, specially compared to what we had before.

Agreed! I remember the mobile version used to be not that good..

not sure how much staff would want to bother with the approval process for the app, not to mention coding it for ios/android systems and keeping it constantly up to date. both for any new things added to the forum, as well as software/version updates for the operating systems themselves

it wouldn't be something as simple as just flipping a switch and viola, but require dedicated constant work and upkeep to maintain. something I imagine isn't exactly on their plate of focus right now

It’s also worth noting that app creation is a massive pain and can be costly as well.

i get push notifications by allowing email notifs and turning those on in my mail app.

Personally, I don't think it's needed since TBT 3.0 is so mobile friendly (courtesy of XenForo). I would be onboard with it if we were still on 2.0.

However, there's something that you could try. There's an app called Tapatalk. It's basically a platform where you can access forums independent of the platform they run on. I've used Tapatalk for a long time, but as I moved away from some forums that still used vBulletin, and the XenForo ones all updated and became more mobile friendly, I didn't feel the need to use it anymore.

Now that the forum works so well on mobile, I don't know if we need an app, plus the costs would be a bit steep for the upkeep of an app. Overall, it would be cool, but the mobile platform works just as well now

i personally think tbt works really well on mobile, now, but an app could definitely have some perks to it!
