Idea for a new subfourm

thats a bad idea. anyone and everyone can lie about their age. maybe im lying about my age. maybe you are. i dont know. you dont know. who knows? not me

I don't think this would be a good idea, but I think it may be good to split Brewster's cafe into serious / non-serious topic discussion forums. It's weird when there's a food thread right next to a controversial topic thread.

Yeah, I think that'd be better. Lighthearted chatter versus deep and thought provoking stuff.

Tbh I'm so sick of all the "This or that" or "What's your favourite that" threads in Brewster's that pretty much just contain 1-5 word replies.
Push them all away

Would it be nice? Sure, but it's just too easy to disguise yourself online and gain access to something like that. It's been an idea for a long time, but there's no way to weed out who's mature and who's not, not to mention the people that would say "oh why can't I have access, I'm mature!".

Basically this. Something like this isn't a bad idea in theory, but it'd be essentially impossible to implement. There's no realistic way we'd be able to determine who would be allowed into a board like this short of sequestering members by age which I doubt would go over well, and it's not like age is even close to a surefire way to gauge someone's overall maturity. We couldn't really put together a "maturity test" or something official that would allow access to the board, so it'd basically have to be a combination of taking everyone's personal testament of their own maturity and the staff's observation about specific members, neither of which would be even close to perfect methods.

And of course, people can be less than honest about both their age and their own maturity. I'm also reasonably certain a board like this would cause friction within the community due to people feeling left out, as disallowing "immature" people access to a board would be bound to cause hurt feelings. Just seems like we'd be trading one set of issues for another.

Don't get me wrong; I wish the thread closure rate due to things getting out of hand was lower and that people would all get along and discuss things like mature adults, but I very honestly don't think a new board would do much to prevent these types of issues. Suffice it to say, I don't think a subforum for mature members is something that's likely to happen.

Maybe create a 'more serious' board where issues could be discussed and moderation would be heavier or more strict? It's always a shame when threads get closed down because people have temper tantrums.

This is what i was trying to say (i have a bad way with words) like nvll said i hate all the "this or that" "what is your fav ____" threads

A bit of a bad example, but I know a gaming forum that required people to fill in a form to be accepted into the forum, and even then they were on a trial period before they could become a full member and gain access to all the other boards. Perhaps a similar thing could be implemented here, except the form was only there for that one board rather than the whole forum.

I'm against this idea, but if something like that were to happen, that's how I think it should go down.

bell tree red light district

must present valid proof of age to gain admittance

I'll see myself out now

Make a ***** board pls. Thanks

This isn't a bad idea actually. Maybe there should be a forum called the Recycling Bin or something like that where the mods move threads that turn into flame wars instead of just locking them. That way the people ruining the thread can continue their silly flame wars there and possibly a new thread can be created in Brewster's Cafe if the topic is salvageable. I don't think the mods would be on board with letting toxic threads just go on, but I believe moderation should be used to prevent bad threads from clogging up the forums and not used to protect people from getting their feelings hurt. If you know that the "Recycling Bin" contains toxic threads and you decide to view them anyway and get offended, then that's your problem.

This is a good idea too. An old site I used to mess around with had a ranting and raving board. When controversial arguments, mature topics, an flame wars happened, they either started or were moved there. It was really helpful, and it was good to weed out the people who only wanted drama, too, because there was plenty of drama there.

Can, someone please make a pok?mon sub-forum on the TBT Marketplace? I think it would make the forum much more organized. :lemon:

I think Justin has commented on this before, but there isn't a real need for one. Not enough Pokemon being sold to warrant its on subboard.
