If you have a mental illness what is it?

Bipolar disorder, yo.

I'm autistic but I don't consider that a mental illness; it's neurodivergence, and so easy to accommodate for if alistic people just listened rather than consider it a disease.

Thankfully, I don't have anything so bad that it makes me unable to function. But I have seasonal affective disorder, social anxiety/a bit of generalized anxiety, and mild levels of OCD

I'm on the Autism spectrum, I don't think that's considered a mental illness (cuz Autistic people aren't inherently unhealthy, so it's more of a disorder or condition than an illness) but since you said Aspergers' I thought I'd mention it. I also struggle with chronic anxiety and fatigue and PTSD.

I am also autistic and I also do not consider it a mental illness. I only recently found out about neurodivergence and it makes me feel a lot better about it - I also wish allistic people listened to anything we have to say.

I have depression and really severe general anxiety. I'm a nervous, antsy person and I hate it. I'm an overthinker.

Disease or not, it's still a mental thing I could have been without. Sure I might know useless facts or be careful sorting books but that's not really helping or **** lol. I think what is more a mental disease to me is that my parents made me grew up pretty sheltered and mentally choked so I seem pretty much younger because of that rather than Asperger, it's like they knew I had it way before I got it official lol :v

Neuro stuff or not, it's definitely an everyday thing that hinders you doing a lot or otherway and I don't like when people see it as a good "variation" rather than obstacle.. yeah good variations how about society adapting to us? We can't really be normal.

I definitely agree that it gets annoying when people ignore all the obstacles that come with being on the Autism spectrum and only highlight the good, and almost act like it's wrong to acknowledge there are bad things about being Autistic, but I don't think that seeing it purely as a negative is helpful, because whether or not we wanna be on the spectrum, we kind of just are, there isn't a cure and so we may as well be mindful of the ways that Autism can be helpful or good. I mean, it's anyones' personal choice to be more negative if they want, I guess, but I don't really see how it helps to ignore the positives and just act like it's a curse. I guess I just prefer to see the silver lining in a situation if I don't have hope in actually changing it.

I also personally believe that while there are certain things about being on the spectrum that are always gonna suck regardless of whether or not society accepts us (I know that my sensory issues and executive dysfunction issues aren't gonna become better just because society does), there are also a lot of things that are only negatives because society doesn't understand how to accept us or adapt to us- things about how we think or socialize differently wouldn't be such a big deal if society didn't prioritize neurotypical ways of acting and speaking over other forms.
