lol this has happened to me maybe four times now? last time i restarted my island which i deeply regret doing because the 2.0 update came out a few months after and i missed out on so much cool stuff for my island. but honestly there are a lot of aspects of my current island that i like so much more.

but to the point, i'm starting to lose interest. like today i just didn't play at all. i don't know if it's because i'm not having a lot of time at all to play when the sun is still up which is when i feel most productive, or if it's because i completed the story part of the game and can't think of anything to do now that i'm in fully sandbox mode. for those of you who want to recommend hhp to get me back into the game, i could try that, but honestly i'll just feel even worse because of my really bad ability to decorate.

so outside of hhp, what should i do to maybe ease back into the gameplay? i have some turnips sitting around i'm probably not going to sell so if anyone wants 'em let me know. goodnight tbt <3

If you're not interested in it at the moment, you might as well do something else. Play other games, or do other non-gaming hobbies, and eventually, you'll feel in the mood for playing Animal Crossing again, and it will be there waiting for you, ready whenever you are.

I'd play other games or find a brand new game to check out. You can always circle back to new horizons or another animal crossing game later.
Even though I have a fairly new Island, I don't play everyday. Luckily there isn't really any penalty for walking away for a bit.

try doing other things for a while. it’s good to take a break from a specific thing for some time. every 2-3 months I always take a 2-3 week break from animal crossing just to let myself try other stuff.

but if you want ideas on how to stay engaged, something that I would do when I was bored in acnh were challenges. they don’t have to be very big, and you can come up with them yourself. they can be small stuff like how many bells can you earn in 10 minutes or something a bit harder like crafting every piece of a furniture set. other then that i would try to make changes to my island like changing a section or something like that.

Don’t force yourself to play if you’re not feeling it. No shame in losing interest. Those things happen with interests, where we enjoy them for a while and fall off. Take a break and maybe you’ll want to come back to it. You don’t have to worry about losing your favorite villagers, so there’s no harm in taking breaks. You can try other things in the meantime.

There doesn't need to be a deep reason behind it. You can simply be uninterested in it right now and that is okay. If you have been playing a lot of it then it might be time to try a new game.

I haven't touched ACNH in months. Games that I have enjoyed in the meantime include Dynasty Warriors 9, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, and Final Fantasy XIV. Most of those I played for a good 40-70hrs before moving on to something else. I'll go back to ACNH eventually but right now it's not entertaining me.

If you lose interest, its better to find something else to do and go back when you're ready.
And if you time travel, you can always tt to the date you last played

I get burnt out on acnh a lot, so i just not play it for a while then return when i want to, same with the other games i played.

At this point, I play ACNH quite rarely, I never could get used to the Switch or the new game mechanics.

It's totally natural for your interest in something to change over time and your town will be there when/if you want to come back to it.

It happens. I come back to the game every now and then. I used to never terraform or design and tried to make the best out of the game in every other possible way, but honestly if that isn't your thing you won't be getting a lot of mileage out of the game. The game is first and foremost a designing simulator.

So the last few times I came back to the game I started to try that instead and I got some mileage out of it, but never really took it to the next level like some of the hardcore designers here. It just really wasn't my thing. So it's ok if you're losing interest. There are plenty of other games that can fill that void until/if you want to come back, if we get some new content, or if and when the next series installment comes out. Don't feel forced to play it. That just makes your interest in it worst.

At this point its probably best to put down the game or play other games at this point. Its not going to get updated anytime soon. Hate to sound negative, but thats just the reality.

There are days I simply log on, make the rounds for cleanup, and log off. Other days I'll be on for 2 hours.

Do something else, be it a new game or not related to gaming at all. NH well be there when you get back.

As others have said it is perfectly fine to take a break and play something else. Luckily your villagers will still be there when you go back to it. I haven’t been playing as much as I used to. Mostly because of time and wanting to do other things. You should not force yourself to play. The game has been out for two years so it makes sense you won’t feel like playing as much as when you first got it. If you want to get back into it you could set goals for yourself. Maybe work on any nook mile achievements you don’t have yet.

My interest wavers from “play it most of the day to the point I’m telling myself to play one of the other games I’ve got for the Switch” to “pop in for a bit, not really feeling it today”, it’s ultimately how I get with every AC game. Pace yourself a bit, play as little or as much as you feel like, and if you feel like you need to take a break, come back when you feel like you want to!

I always take breaks. Sometimes I won't play for months. Now I'm back in it again after basically a year of not really wanting to play. It's that random burst of motivation that you get without warning.

I took a 2-month hiatus from playing this winter because I was playing a different game daily. I got back into this game after I finished the other game, and came up with new ideas for terraforming. And I spend a lot of time exploring dream towns. I think it really does just depend on what you’re in the mood to play. Sometimes it feels good to take a short break from the game.
It’s nice because there aren’t any consequences from taking a break from ACNH really, in New Leaf you were at risk of a villager moving away on you if you didn’t check in, but that isn’t a thing anymore in NH.

i know this thread is a few months old, but i’m going through the same thing. i first started losing interest late last year, and it’s just gotten worse since, to the point that i maybe load the game up once a week or once every few weeks. i’m two months behind in-game and i really don’t see myself getting caught up anytime soon.

i know it might feel like you have an obligation to play, but you don’t. you don’t have to ease back into playing if you don’t want to. you’re allowed to take a break for as long as you want. your island will still be waiting for you when you come back.

however, if you do want to ease back into playing, maybe start off by playing for 5-10 minutes every day and doing small tasks? talk to your villagers, go shopping, clean up any weeds, flowers or materials, etc.

When I feel this way I just tend to play less not for such long periods like I usually do and just like the other users have said when you do play do simple relaxing things like fishing or gardening and so on. That way you do not over think to much and get so sick of the game and have a burn out.

Whenever I'm bored I just take a break and eventually I get the itch to play again. I don't time travel back either because it feels like you're constantly playing catch up if you do.

You're probably burnt out. It happens. I suggest a break from the game. Like try playing another game. For me, when I'm feeling burnt out from Animal Crossing, I play either Mario 3D World (trying to get all the stars, stamps and golden flags) and I just restarted my save of Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

It happens to the best of us. The 2.0 update brought me back for a couple weeks but I have since lost interest again. It's not worth forcing yourself to play if you just aren't feeling it. Don't fell ashamed to take a break to play other games or even indulge in some other hobby for a while. Animal Crossing will always be there if you ever get the itch to play it again. :)
