So, on another forum I go on, my inbox became full. I received a notification somebody had tried to send me a message but couldn't, so I was a little bit disappointed I didn't get to see what they wanted to say. Then, after I'd cleared my inbox out a little, the message came into my inbox. So, basically, they had a system where the message would indeed send, but it wouldn't appear in your inbox until you'd deleted some messages. I'm not sure if that kind of thing could be implemented here, but I think it would be pretty neat.

I agree with you. I've had this happen to me here and I was supposed to get three pms... I had no clue my inbox was full. So I cleared out almost all of my messages, but I never got to see what they wanted to say

I completely agree, this would greatly benefit the inbox.
An inbox full or nearly full notification feature is on the to-do list right now. 
Not sure about the feature you're proposing of sending the PM later, but a notification should be a good start. I actually just got a PM about it the other day so it's already on the list!
