a new(ish) southern hemisphere island

Hi all!

You may recognize Inverness as having stolen its name from my previous island, but we've banished that island into the depths of the ocean along with all of its previous inhabitants and have begun again! I found that the island theme that I was going for before (very European, lots of straight lines and symmetry) really wasn't working for me, and as such I fell off the AC bandwagon for a long time. The cat-only island also wasn't really working for me -- I love the cats, but a lot of them were already familiar faces, and I wanted villagers I hadn't had before.

So this is my something new.

I am thinking about keeping my island at only 8 villagers. I think it's nice and neat, and would keep me at one villager of each personality, but this may just end up depending on how the island develops and if I end up with leftover space to add more. ​

KK Slider came for the first time today!

And perhaps more importantly, the Able Sisters' shop opened and I unlocked terraforming, so all those lovely custom designs I've been waiting on have been downloaded, and we can finally begin building the island!

Lilies in the background to appease Isabelle's ferocious need for endless flowers. Campsite also not a permanent fixture.

...as you can see, Muffy's house looks rather stark on the beach. She, uh, won't be staying. ​

Needed one more update for the night, apparently! The first real terraformed area that I decided to work on was Redd's secret beach, and I think it came out really nicely! Here's the finished build late at night:

I think that I'd like to have a decent portion of my island be on the second layer of cliffs, so I may use the side cliffs of this area to block out areas for Dobie and Muffy to each side.

And while I was TTing to get that staircase (that you can't even see in this picture, go figure) built, O'Hare pinged me to leave.

Some little updates around the island, and some big updates as well!

I added a nice plate of beignets to the dock (for the duck). I think it looks super cute, although it does make the dock totally inaccessible. Which is fine, it's a pretty short, useless dock anyway.

I also have a daytime picture of the path to Redd's secret beach, and terraformed a waterfall beside it.

As you can probably tell, the cliffs around these areas are...a little bare (at least for my taste). I'll be adding items as I accumulate them! And likely some bushes as well, once Leif swings around.

I'm planning on having one villager house right in between these areas, which brings me to...

Inverness' newest resident, Julian!

I think his house will look perfect next to the waterfall and secret path areas, and I'm really happy I found him!

...I miiight do some more time traveling in the meantime, since I'm really on a villager hunting kick. ​

We got Julian all settled in today!

He's actually the only villager with a real house setup so far, but instead of working on fixing that, instead I started working on my entrance.

Like a lot of the other areas I've worked on so far, there are a lot of gaps / spots that need to be filled in still because I'm so low on catalogue items, DIYs, and storage space, but I'd like to have my island at least mostly terraformed before prioritizing filling those in, I think.

As a last update for the day, Mira gave me her photo today!

...which means that she's going to be the next to get kicked out. Sorry Mira! But it also means I should be able, friendship-wise, to get Kid Cat's photo too, and hopefully Cranston, Flora, and Gladys soon! They've honestly been such a good group of starters that I've really enjoyed, but I am also really excited to get some permanent villagers without those awful house interiors around. ​

Looks like I broke some image links from earlier, oops -- I've salvaged what I can, but otherwise, turns out deactivating Twitter will do that to images hosted there. Oops.

I haven't been doing a lot of terraforming or building up the island because of real life commitments unfortunately, but we've still had some news to share!

Flora gave me her photo, aaand then, after a little bit of light TTing when I realized somebody had a thought bubble, she ended up asking to leave before Mira did.

I gave her the go-ahead, and it looks like I'll be carving out some time in the next few days for villager hunting!

During the time traveling, Bam also stopped by the campsite.

Er, Mega-Arm Bam, that is.

And I caught a cute picture of some of my villagers loitering around the (very unfinished) airplane entrance and plaza area.

I'm pretty sad to be saying goodbye to Flora; I really enjoyed having her and would've considered her as a permanent villager if not for her starter home. But I am excited to hopefully fill in another slot with a permanent villager. In particular, I'll be looking for Dom, Judy, and Sherb, since I do want them all on Inverness and won't be able to amiibo them on, but I'd also take Lily or Skye for a permanent normal villager, or Bluebear, Cheri, Felicity, Merry, Pompom, or Puddles to be a permanent peppy villager.​

Welp, 89 tickets later, I have melted my brain with villager hunting (chickens, please, begone), but! I found this lazy blue boy!

Welcome home, Sherb. I'd go on a bit more about how excited I am to have him, but my brain frankly is drained.

That's all I got. Maybe I can work on the island a bit tonight, once I recover from endless island hopping. Hoping that the next hunt (or...four) go a little quicker! ​

I've been on a bit of a time traveling kick to grab photos from my starters and to move them out to start looking for my new permanent set of villagers, and I'm almost! done!!

So big check mark next to the photo collection. Then comes moving them out and moving my new group in.

The villagers I was looking for were:

Jock: Dom
Snooty: Judy
Normal: Skye or Lily
Peppy: Pompom, Cheri, Bluebear, Merry, or Felicity

I was hoping this would be a substantial enough list that hunts wouldn't get too long, buuut, well, they definitely made me work for it.

I found Bluebear first at 77 tickets.

Then came Skye at 94 tickets.

And Dom at a very nice 25 tickets.

Now, my last remaining starter is Cranston, and I'll be searching for Judy -- just Judy, so I can only imagine how awful this last hunt will be, but after that, I'll be able to focus more on decorating the island!

I did start working on Dobie's area in the meantime, and he and Julian took up residence immediately, which I thought was very cute, even though this picture doesn't show the finished area.

We kicked Cranston out late last night after some time traveling (that boy did not want to go), so today I went on another villager hunt to fill my last "permanent" slot!

It went...incredibly quickly. Diana showed up on ticket #6 at the top of a mountain, and -- okay, listen. I had chosen Judy to be my snooty for this island, but only because I had once had Diana a long time ago. But I adore her, and she's frankly perfect for Inverness. Her house, honestly, is even better than Judy's.

And on ticket #6?

I wasn't passing that up. Welcome home, Diana.

Another neat thing that happened was getting Dobie's photo -- I hadn't really been focused on gifting my permanent villagers (since I'll have...all the time in the world, pretty much), so this was a sweet surprise!

But maybe it's because I've been spending so much time hanging out with him.

Or maybe he just likes his house area!

Anyway, signing off with a quick map update -- you can really tell the "done" areas vs. the totally untouched areas, and even the "done" areas are quite empty decor-wise in a lot of spaces.

But we're getting there!​

Slowly getting around to more terraforming!

The museum still needs a second layer of cliffs in the back, and perhaps some more items to fill along the sides? But I'm quite happy with how it's turning out, tucked in among the cliffs.

Bluebear also clearly appreciates it.

There's also this little waterfall area at one of my river mouths. It's also sorely in need of more cliffscaping along the back, as well as items around the cliffs in general, but it's starting to take shape, at least.

And decided to put down my ninth plot and go villager-hunting for a bit, too. I ran into some very cute villagers, including Maple, Lolly, Audie, Molly, and Pekoe, but none of them felt like the right fit for Inverness, until I found...

Chevre!

I've actually had Chevre before briefly on an old, long gone island, but she wasn't a permanent villager, so I'm really excited to have her again for good. I think she and Sherb getting to be pals on this island is going to be incredibly cute, too. ​
