It's just the term that was coined for the currency. I'm guessing it was supposed to be TBT Bells as in The Bell Tree Bells, but people just felt like using the acronym and dropped the bells part.

I didn't really mean currency. I meant synonyms for general money, specifically U.S. money, because when speaking about an American dollar they all refer to the same thing.
