Is it "Southern food" or "soul food"?

Do you consider food such as fried chicken, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, hush puppies, corn bread, black-eyed peas, etc. to be Southern food or soul food? This food is common in the Southern United States and also among many African Americans across the country. What do you call it, personally?

Well, I'm from the Southeast of the US sadly

I usually hear both, but the most of time it's soul food..but then again my family rarely called it that too.

I'm not from the south but I use "soul food" and "comfort food" interchangeably, mainly because it's nice and warm (and usually not the best for you) but it tastes amazing and it's good for the soul.

I’m from the south, but we just call it “food”. Lmao. I may have heard “southern food” once or twice, but never heard anyone call it “soul food”.

"Soul food" is the common term for it among African Americans. I'm not black personally, but my friends who are have typically called it that.

I personally just call it "damn good food" but I hear a lot of people call it "soul food".

I kinda call it middle age heart attack food, honestly.

It really depends on where you are from and your culture. However for me, I refer to the foods that you listed as "Homemade laxatives".

Soul food if you ask me! :D I have grown up with it (really good cooks in my family) and there's nothing like it in the world especially after a hard day's work! :)

Being raised in the south I'm pretty sure we just call it good food. Granted I'm closer to the ~undisclosed location~ border so it might just be different where I'm from.

I'm in the better part of Texas :p

i call it soul food, it was influenced by african americans and times of slavery and theres many similarities between cooking of soul food and african cooking. i feel that calling it southern food broadens the cuisine to all who are southern and takes away from what is black culture tbh...(which is a common thing whites tend to do to blacks, take credit for their creativity/inventions/ideas)

Hard to answer for me cause I consider these-

Soul food- mac N cheese, chocolate, cheesecake ect...
Southern food- corn bread (ew) fried chicken, collard greens, crawdads, alligator, boiled peanuts, ect...

I live in the South and I can't tell you X)
