Is no one gonna talk about the fact that Nintendo seemingly trolled us?

"In-game purchases" seems to be referring to purchasing our house upgrades and such. 😂 They even said updates will be free, so were most of us freaking out over nothing?

They didn't say all updates will be free, forever.

There could still be additional features added through paid DLC. I can't wait!

That would have been funny, but the free update only refers to seasonal events.

Sooooo... It was possibly future-proofing for paid DLC down the road?

It wasn't a troll. You notice anytime they mentioned online play, there was a whole bunch of fine print toward the bottom of the video. I couldn't read it, but I imagine it had something to do with disclaimers and what not with regard to online play being an additional cost, and how they can't be held responsible for the actions of others while online.

i think only the event updates will be free but maybe ones further down the line will cost money? i hope not but who knows.

i dont think its a troll. i just think it refers to nintendo's online service being required for online play, and is referring to the prompt for that. i still dont believe they'll create paid DLC packs, but its still speculation.

Yes, maybe their could be a similar update like whats happening to pokemon right now? but I don't think in-game purchases was referring to the gameplay... It was pointed out that smash and mario odyssey have the same thing, but no like real world money. I think its a funny play on the AC gameplay but, I think its just there for coverage sake

Can someone explain why do they need free updates for seasonal events? Aren't those supposed to be in the game already?

Is it bad that I genuinely hope we get DLCs? I would absolutely love the Pokemon Sword and Shield treatment. Here's what I mean, while we are on a vacation already, it would be cool to pay another 20-30 dollars to unlock new areas to explore such as a bustling city like back in City Folk or a ski lodge. These packs would also unlock exclusive outfits or furniture maybe. While I like the idea of the holidays being free, it would also be nice if they had free updates to dialogue of the villagers so you don't get sick of having the same conversation after a year of playing.

They may be preventing people from time skipping to holidays that are not currently happening to get more items than other players before that holiday occurs.
They also may be taking notes from PC and could be implementing a different event for each holiday during the next 2 or 3 years. I.e. one year we have a scavenger hunt and get jingle items and then the next year we have to deliver gifts and get some other form of furniture set.

I was thinking the same thing. It’s probably to discourage TT for events only (not in-game clock) so that we play them in order when they roll them out. I kinda prefer it this way actually. Either that or it’s not finished 100% yet lol. Maybe having free updates on events is also their way of bringing those free DLC items back that you can only unlock through the post office or whatever.

I don't understand why do they care. Let people do whatever they want.

There was a lot of hacking and duping of items in new leaf that left a VERY sour taste in Nintendos mouth. They are trying to prevent this sort of thing. I see no reason why the free updates are an issue. Whether a game is finished or not is completely subjective to each individual person, no one needs to participate in these events for months so why delay the game further for things that dont affect the current time?

Call it strange, I just don't like the idea that when I buy a cartridge, there won't be a full game inside. I don't want to get it piece by piece.

Some people don't have easy internet access, or limited amounts of data.

This stuff not being on the Cart means they may be prevented from playing the holidays.

The "in-game purchases" was on the ESRB rating. I don't think Nintendo is allowed to put things there as a joke

The switch is portable you can take it to a library or other area with free wifi.

I mean every game now has free updates and dlc. It's like complaining splatoon wasnt finished because they update more guns and events into it regularly but it was very much a finished game.
