So, I've been asking myself if Nintendo Switch Online is worth it. I've been considering subscribing, but I don't really want to use 20 dollars if I'm just going to play Splatoon 2. I have the NES classic, so "renting" NES games is useless to me. Does Switch Online really have any redeeming qualities to it or is it a waste of money?

Mehhh, in your case, it depends how much you play Splatoon 2 and if you want things like Cloud Saves or an exclusive Splatoon 2 outfit. It's a pretty solid deal for two years, but I won't lie and say it's for everyone. I got it because I have more than one game that needs it, and I bought barely any VC games on my Wii U or 3DS, so it was worth it for me. I don't know, if you have a credit card, get the free trial (7 days) and cancel it early before it starts charging you, to get a final opinion. But I will say, it probably won't be spectacular in your case.

Tbh, I don't even play Splatoon 2 online that much. I usually only do Salmon Runs. My other games are Mario Kart and Kirby Star Allies, which are both offline. I might just have to play the original Splatoon. I don't have a credit card, unfortunately.

If you're going to play online get it and if you're not then don't get it. I think that's what it comes down to.

Its only worth it if you play Splatoon 2 a lot, and if you have others games you like to play online on so I guess its worth it,
But its only for splatoon 2 then idk really but like everyone else says if you play splatoon 2 a lot then its kinda worth it. Also were you active a lot on splatoon when online USE to be free?

Nope, but I got it anyways so my friends and I can play together under the same membership (Family membership). We play a lot of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe together and I play Splatoon 2 + Pokken Tournament DX so I'm using it enough. Don't give a crap about the NES games or other benefits really aside from cloud saves which turned out to be kind of decent. No Splatoon 2 backup is an oversight on their part due to poor planning. I have extremely low hopes for this special deal subscribers get that they didn't talk about. Their current reward system is crap and discounts are very minor as it is.

When the online multiplayer was free, my brother would get disconnected a lot because of a bad connection. Does the paid service improve this at all?

no, the service is unfortunately the same as it was before. i hear it's because they don't necessarily use like... actual servers and all of the connections are peer to peer but i don't really know anything about how that stuff works so take my word with a grain of salt :B i have pretty good internet so i rarely have problems with it in the first place but i assume if it's peer to peer and your brother doesn't have a good connection he will continue to have connection issues

Very salty I bought the year subscription for Splat2 before checking if I really liked the multiplayer. Matchmaking's horrendous before you can earn Ranked mode, which I haven't yet in over a month of regular play because my level 5 butt gets crushed by teams of level 80+s every time (and I don't even get the fabled connection issues...). I heard that online multiplayer in other games is lacking too, like butchering Mario Party into a small minigame rotation. I don't think it's currently worth having online service but it will when AC rolls around.

If you play Splatoon 2 a bunch or even other games online a lot, I'd say go for it. I'm probably gonna get the Online service when Smash Ultimate comes out because I know for sure I'll be spending a lot of time in that game, so it'll be worth it for me.

Yeah, that can be a problem. Splatoon 2's turf wars have gotten a lot more intense; my friend compared it to the stress level of a ranked battle. I usually just play Splatoon 2 for Salmon Runs because that's where I personally shine. Tbh, I think that the online jersey and shoes were worth the 20 bucks. I love it.

I mean it's just $20 and probably equivalent to buying an indie game from the eShop. It's good for a year so that's fine with me even if I only play online for Splatoon playing SR, at least for now.

I've heard the online service is buggy as heck and the cloud saves are limited to certain games to prevent cheating (This will almost certainly include AC for the switch). There's a massive backlash over it right now :/ I wouldn't personally buy it. I think it's kind of bogus to charge for something that is supposed to be a standard part of gaming these days... That's just my opinion.

You know what don't get the online thing and wait till you get more nintendo games with online then its worth to pay for the online.

To me, the amount of hours I put into playing Splatoon 2 online makes it worth it. Not as much as some people on here lol, but still. I also play mariokart online occasionally, so it makes it worth it. $20 USD is like a third of a game, and you get it for a whole year. It seems like a bargain to me.

Though I usually only play Splatoon 2 for Salmon Run nowadays (as I want to wait until the turf wars calm down a bit), I still play it a TON, especially to grind for chunks. I think the 20 dollars was definitely worth it, especially since I will probably play more games online in the future, such as AC Switch if I do decide to get it. Not to mention when we get a proper Pokemon Switch game and not the Let's Go rubbish that is coming out.

Try find some friends to get yourselves a family plan, with all eight of you it's like 5 ish bucks for the whole year.

Simple question, simple answer.

Do you have $20 to spare or can you share a family plan with others?

Yes: continue to next question. No: not worth it.

Do you have a lot of games with online functionality?

Yes: continue to next question. No: not worth it.

Do you have people to play online with or do you enjoy playing with strangers online?

Yes: Buy a subscription. No: not worth it.

Not talking about Nintendo Switch Online NES 'cause really it's such a minor feature to many I'd not let that decide whether you buy it or not. It's just a nice bonus I guess.
