I don't understand why Leif has never given it to me, I've been buying from him every time he visits my island for months. At this point I'm thinking I botched a step somewhere and he'll never give it to me, so I'm wondering if the DIY has a card like the majority of them? In which case I can ask over on Nook's Cranny forum for one. Or is it, as I fear, one of those recipes that gets directly sent to the Nook phone?

My understanding is that you get that DIY from the Nook Miles machine. At least, that's what this claims.

Or have you also tried all of that, and you still don't have the recipe?
And are you 100% sure you don't have the recipe? I've thought that I lost a recipe in the past, only to find it by looking more carefully later. ^o^;>

I believe Nature day starts on 23rd April and you talk to Tom Nook who will start Nature day.
Once you complete the first nature day task you go back to Tom Nook and he should give you the hedge recipe.

Prior to 2.0, you could get it during nature day IIRC, and then afterwards, you could get it by filling requirements, such as buying x amount of shrubs, completing the workshop, and having crafted fences before.
@kiwikenobi I have brought from Leif on both my island and Harv's. And yeah, definitely checked multiple times, no hedge recipe. I also don't have Custom Fencing redemption available, so I probably bought that before the 2.0 update.
@Liz! Nature Day even tasks were removed from the game as of v1.9.0 in March 2021, and I didn't start playing until after that.
I'm starting to think I may have to buy it on Nook's Cranny lol
