I’ve seen so many people talk about methods for getting villagers to move out. Does any of it actually work or is it just kind of random?
I know there’s a timeframe that villagers can’t ask to move out (however many days after the last one), but is there something that actually works when trying to get a villager to leave your island?

It requires time travel. From my testing it takes only 15 days for a move out thought bubble to appear on the villager that is thinking of moving out. However, there is some issues with this. If you have a lot of "best friend" villagers they would sometimes be thinking about gifting you an item or thinking about a nickname for you, so that can make the process harder. The best way to tell is if you have a villager that has a lower friendship which means to say that you haven't talked to them much to even gift them.

What I do is usually look for the villager I want to move, if the thought bubble is on the villager I don't want to move, I ignore them, skip a day ahead and then boot up the game and the thought bubble will appear on a different villager. This can take many tries since its RNG, but it does work when it does land on the villager you want to move out when you see the thought bubble over their head. So yeah it is annoying I will say this much, but thats the only method I know of that works really well but requires a lot of time traveling.

In my experience, not really. If 'move out' time rolls around and the thought bubble isn't above the villager you want to leave, just don't even talk to that villager. The thought bubble will move to a different villager *usually* the following day.

I remember reading about this method somewhere before and I think I tried for a few days but got frustrated and gave up😅

Thats what I’ve kinda gathered over time. I was curious if anyone had any success experimenting with all the “move out methods” out there. Idk if I’d have the patience to test them all to find out🤣

Well I unfortunately think people let their minds play tricks on them. If you've been smacking let's say Barold with a net for a week and he pings to move, it's just coincidence...the net had nothing to do with it lol

Exactly😂😂

Out of habit I am always rotating my move out thought bubble, without the time travel aspect. Each day a new villager will have the thought bubble to move out, if I talk to a villager and they are asking to move out then I simply press the home button then ‘x’ to shut down the game and then I restart. If you just don’t talk to that villager while they have a thought bubble for the rest of the day then the next day someone different will have it.

Due to randomization the difference in friendship levels does not make a huge difference in my experience (Genji has lived on my island for over a year and given me his picture 3 times and he pings to leave all the time). And the last villager to move in will not ask to move out ever (or at least only very very rarely)

if you say no to a villager who wants to move another will not ask for about a week.

because it is unpredictable I generally reset the bubble rather than answering so that I have more chance of a villager I am willing to let go asking to move without having to go through a big headache of a process.

Use this to work out the odds of it being them
But as you'll see, the odds don't change that much unless you have everyone at best friend level and the one you want to move out is low friendship

So I guess hitting them with a net really does work! But the amount of time it will take to lower their friendship while having everyone else's be super high... not really worth the effort imo

imo and from personal experience, the move out methods do work, it just can take a while for the villager that you’re trying to evict to want to move out as even with time travel, it ultimately comes down to luck. that being said, if time travel is something you’re comfortable with, this is the method that has worked best for me if you’re open to recommendations! :)

The only thing any of these methods are good for is in initiating the move out bubble other than that everything is left to chance. Even making sure that the one you want to move out has lower friendship than the rest for higher odds is negligible. I know this because I move out villagers every two weeks and I’m sure that my 8 permanent villagers have maxed out friendship which should mean that my 9th villager should be easy to move out and yet they seem to have about as much chance of being picked as my permanent villagers.

I don't think there's any method at all, its just randomly decided on who wants to move out. Its nothing ypur character has done it just aggravates some people to see methods not working

Your best case of removing a villager you specifically dont want is from Amiibo. Or the campsite, from playing the game over, and over until they say the villager you wanna replace.
