Are they the same thing?? Same size?? If that's the case why not make the switch lite able to plug into a tv. I'm confused

The Switch Lite is a little smaller.

Also, from what I'm seeing in a specs comparison, the main Switch has better graphic and sound components to make it look and sound good when connected to a large TV with a good sound system. The Switch can scale up to 1080p if needed, while the Switch Lite is capped at handheld mode's 720p. Oddly enough, the Switch has a better battery than the Switch Lite.

In addition to that, the Switch Lite is cheaper because it's solely handheld. The extra $100 is for the convenience (and capability) of being able to play the Switch either as a home console or as a handheld.

Here's a good visual comparison:

If you just google "Switch regular and Switch lite", you can see the difference.
I think the main idea was just to get a version on the switch on the market, for people who might not have that extra money to spend on a regular switch. They can't really start adding the same abilities (like making it be able to hook up to the tv) because then the price would go up again and kinda defeat the purpose. As wall as the size is different, you can't remove the controllers (like you can with joycons) and maybe not as strong graphics (I have no idea). But adding any of this to the switch lite, would make the price go up.

I was actually going to buy the lite at first because it was cheaper. But I bought a used regular switch to still save some money, but I can still hook it up to the tv. I didn't think I would care about hooking it up to the tv because I was so used to my 3DS, but I love being able to hook it up to the tv. As well as some games like Mario Party is easier to play on the regular switch, and that was a game I definitely wanted.

The screen size (used portion of it) is actually the same or rather supposed to be, never measured mine to actually check, but the housing is smaller. The lite can be docked with a work around, just not intended to be. The lack of docking comes down to cost, they removed all the accessories to dock and some hardware in the lite that along with making the joy-con perma-attached reduces the need to account for that as well, basically Switch Lite is just streamlined for portability and just meant to be treated as a handheld because let's face it, the Switch is a handheld pretending to be console to begin with.

Because if they made it so that you can plug it in the tv it's just a switch like the first one only without the joycons. If you have to buy extra joycons to play with a switch lite on your tv you will pay almost as much as a regular switch 😅

These are the official specs, as you can see, the lite is smaller. I know that ~1 in doesn't sound like a big difference, but it is when referring to screens.

And the joycons come off? That worries me...

On the regular switch, there is a lock mechanism that prevents the joy cons from falling off by themselves. There is a little button you press on the back In which it will release the locking mechanism fro the joy-cons so you can slide them off. To put them back on your just slide them back in place.

I was talking about the switch console.. I have switch lite so idk if the joycons come off the switch console or not
Ah okay. Yeah the Switch console joycons are removable. It comes with a little gamepad thing that you can slide them into to make a controller for when you have it docked. Like @Lavamaize said, they snap into place so there's really nothing to worry about with them tbh.

But it's worth noting that the locking mechanism spoken of in this post doesn't always work and the joycons can stop working if they aren't fully connected so during the course of normal play the you might get a prompt that the joycons have stopped working asking you to re-sync them and one or both joycons won't until you remove them from the console or make sure they're fully attached if trying to play with them attached and the latter is no simple task at times.

Were you trying to decide between getting one or the other of them?

If that was the goal I'd recommend the Lite, has a number of advantages for personal play and if there ever comes a situation you need to dock the thing for multiplayer the workaround isn't difficult and there are videos online to help with that. I've personally never have docked my Switch if that helps.

I have a switch lite when it came out i was just sold for some reason and i wanted to play NH and then i got 2 switch lites but then i realized that was a horrible idea after i read a thread about how amazing it is to play nh on the tv.. and so i returned the second lite and then i realized the switch console was only a hundred dollars cheaper so i was thinking about buying one so i could have a second island ect.. but im happy with my switch lite :) but i was wondering if switch lites are more slow when it comes to loading lots of items?

When both are in handheld mode their performance is the same, docked the regular Switch a 'stronger' system due to how it shifts priorities when docked.
