Is there an island theme you love but couldn't pull off?

I really want to do a big city theme, but alas, you can’t really make any of the buildings look like those you find in a city, except for the museum. I’ve seen photos on Pinterest of creators who made very good-looking fake buildings, but the realism kind of gets thrown out the window once you see said buildings in-game with camera movement. If I build an island with a theme, I always try to make sure it’s both visually pleasing and functional, but I do agree that you can’t really have both with certain themes.

It’s fairly easy to use custom designs on the ground and on a few objects to give off that big city feel, but I just can’t be bothered to make a fake building look good. Maybe they’ll expand on the big city idea from City Folk in the next game somewhat and give us some more options on which buildings we can have in our town, similar to New Leaf, as well as how they look.

An idea would be like the facilities around the island in the DLC, as I hope we'll be getting a perhaps not city-folk-style urban, but something a bit more urban than in NH. Animal Crossing: New Foundation, perhaps?

I thought for ages they were never going to give the game farming and cooking, until they did.

I expect next game to probably be another island kinda thing. But they could expand the farming in the next game, and go for a rural town vibe allowing you to do the facilities in the DLC to build up the town.

There's a lot of different themes I wish I could have pulled off on my island. I love outer space stuff, magical fairy forest , natural/cottagecore, elegant garden islands... I'm just no good with coming up with enough ideas within a theme to cover an entire island. I have no focus, zero attention span, constantly change my mind on what's what. I can barely sit down and decorate a 10x10 yard for a villager, forget getting even 1/4 of my island to stick to one theme...

In my IRL life I LOVE...... everything gothic from my clothes to how my house is decorated. I would love to do a gothic looking island but for some reason I just do not want to I like all the colours and pretty looking things :)

I like the Islands that have hedge mazes and a shopping plaza. I could never be able to pull them off as I am really bad at getting things just right for such precise designs.

I originally wanted to do a "Town" theme but it just got too complicated. I mean its not realistic. Seriously an island that has a town? I don't know what I was thinking. So I decided to just have my island be whatever comes to my head as my immagination.

More of a themed area, forced perspective builds are something I have always been interested in but I really doubt in my own ability to make it look good. Something like this for example (found on reddit)

City themed islands are also interesting to me (and also way outside of my build abilities) but I don't think I would actually want that on MY island, so it doesn't bother me that I can't make it. Same goes for Mario themed islands. To me it just starts to feel like something other than Animal Crossing after a certain point of decorating. When it comes to those kind of themes I prefer to be just a visitor.

Cottage core. I failed at cottage core.
It looks so nice on other islands I've visited, but somehow it just didn't feel right on mine. I think I underestimated how 'cluttery' it would feel. So while it looked decent, it just kind of made me twitch a bit with just how much stuff was everywhere.

I'm heading into a new design phase- probably take me forever, since I'll be taking my time with it, but I'll be aiming for a more eclectic style. A castle area, a small cottage core area, plenty of fishing areas, just different themes all over. The trouble is going to be transitioning from one area to the next. I usually fail at that, too. 😅

I love the big city themes, crowded Japanese street themes, and the fake building looks. I'm absolutely trash at creating the illusion though, and I'm amazed at how detailed people can get with their islands. I literally do not understand how they do it. I'm sure if I watched some youtube videos I could get it, but I don't have too much desire to put that much energy into it. Until then, I'll just have to enjoy other peoples islands who put in the effort.

I made a pink cherry blossom town in New Leaf, but I feel like I wouldn't be able to pull it off in New Horizons, OR I just won't be happy with it and it would make me want to restart and get my old spooky witchy stuff back LOL

Also, I love Harry Potter but everything involved with creating an island surrounding those themes is just overwhelming trying to think of a layout for everything. There are so many builds that are possible, it's difficult where to start. That's why I just stick to my general witchyness and not specifically the Harry Potter wizarding world.
