Is This A Lily Of The Valley Glitch?

Hi all, I have read in numerous places that you can only get the Lily of the Valley if you have a 5-star island. My wife and I both have 4-star islands (Double and Triple checked) but she has gotten 2 LOTV's and I have gotten 1. Is this a glitch, did we just get lucky, or have they changed their requirements? We also have never had 5-star islands. Thanks for any info.

It could be you two have had five-star islands at one point (long enough for one to generate) but the rating dipped back down to four before realizing. It can be a bit finicky sometimes—too many items in one acre can drop your rating.

You can loose the 5 star in a matter of seconds. You can have it, then you plant a tree, and it could be gone. So most likely you had it, did something, then lost it. When you spoke to Isabelle it was most likely back to four stars, and the flower showed up when you had the 5 star.

What does Isabelle say about your town aside from the rating?

She still says it's a 4 and that everybody loves it. She does have a concern about too many items laying around. That is it. I am not really sure what items she is talking about.

I started getting jacob's ladders just after three weeks of playing.

Ok, If she is complaining about an issue, that means you're currently being docked a star. If you clean up the items laying around, you should jump to 5-stars

These are probably diy's, acorns, pineapples, mushrooms and such. Things where you walk threw like stone's and sticks. I think the game regards them as items but i'm not sure...

In new horizons, if the only thing preventing you from 5 stars is things like dropped clothing and furniture, then the lily of the valley will still grow :)

I usually keep things picked up. I did make a basketball court and I have a ball at mid court and some sneakers on the side lines. I also have hose reals, chairs, bikes and things like that. Do they count as thing laying around? Thanks again.

Basically anything and everything that isn't a placed item or in the exempt list below.

(From the wiki https://animalcrossing.fandom.com/wiki/Island_evaluation)
Exempt (These items will not harm the town rating)
  • Items the island natively drops—tree branches, stones, shells, and message bottles—and planted and dropped weeds and meteorites are exempt.

ETA: Funnily enough, weeds in the town don't keep you from getting a 5 star. They just make it a little harder to achieve a good development rating. If you raise your score high enough through other means, you may enjoy plenty of weeds if you like them.

Figured it out. I had a patch for my turnips. I picked all those up and put them in my house and now isabell says I am 5 star. I really don't want to leave them in my house, any ideas? Thanks again.

I'm guessing you're planning on selling the turnips during the week before they go off? If so I'd put them back outside if you'd rather not have them in the house, it will lose your 5 star rating but you should get it back once they're sold if they're what's affecting it so it should only be for a few days.

How many turnips? If 20 or less, you can create a houseless player to hold them. If you have room to spare on your island, you can create a alt character with a house to hold them either in 40 inventory slots or on the floor of their house. Otherwise you can just keep them in the town if 5-star isn't too important to you.

Yeah, one-too-many dropped items or one extra tree maturing will drop the island from 5 to 4 stars. We should be allowed to have more trees and more dropped items. A lot of people like to leave out DIYs for people and others like to decorate with star fragments. I don't think those things should be penalized, especially since we are forced to take the DIYs we already have and to give them to friends. Are we supposed to fly to a friend every time we get a duplicate DIY?

I kind of found a way around this and I don't have to clog up my house. I can Bury all the turnips in the original plot and I still get the 5 star. I guess if they are not on the surface, it doesn't count. Thanks all for helping.

Star fragments don't count as trash. You should be able to have as many as you want.

I have a four star island every time I check in with Isabelle, and Lily of the Valley keep sprouting on my island too.

You're likely fluctuating. Maybe yours is the same as OP. The too many item thing is very easy to hit since it requires just 15 items on the ground to trigger.

Yea, turnips count as clutter. I know there is some tolerance for a few items strewn about (like tools) but it's fairly low and once you're over it then it brings you back down to 4 star. Once you pick a few things up, you're back at 5 star.
