Island hopping or amiibos: which do you prefer?

I prefer amiibos 100%. Island hopping is annoying time sink to me. lol.....probably because I've had zero success when hunting for a particular villager. lol

For villagers I’m super keen on getting, I generally adopt off the forum/from people with amiibo cycling set ups, but otherwise I actually enjoy island hopping. Some of the villagers who live with me currently (including Marina and Pietro) were random move ins or island hopping finds, and I’ve bonded with them more than I would have guessed if I’d been handpicking each villager.
(I also can’t afford amiibos/don’t enjoy the gambling element of buying without knowing what you’ll get)

Both have their downsides. I hate crafting things for them, because half the time, I don't have the materials on - hand. I haven't had any trees at all on my island for awhile because I'm still in the process of mapping it out, and am struggling with layout ideas that I'm actually happy with, and I don't want to plant trees until I'm happy with my cliffs, waterfalls, ponds, etc. because I'll just have to dig them up or cut them down again if I don't like them. So wood is an issue for me, I have to go and island hop ANYWAY to get it, lmao.

That said, I get SO sick of talking to Orville over like 13 text boxes just to go to a single island, especially when I IMMEDIATELY nope off the island because I spot a villager I don't have any interest in.

In the end, Amiibos at least guarantee I will get a villager I want. My friend has been island hopping for literally a collective of 6 hrs now, however, and hasn't found a single jock, much nonetheless a jock she wants.

I like island hopping! I love the thrill of finding THE villagers I'm looking for (we screamed so loud when we found Raymond!)! That is something amiibo cards don't give you imo.

So I'm going to island hop again. I want some amiibo cards too but I think island hopping is so much fun! 😊

Island hopping, because amiibo cards are far too hard to get currently, and far too expensive -- an unopened pack is upwards of 40$ currently.

I don’t know.

In theory I prefer island hopping because it seems more natural and earned. Scanning a card always leaves me with an empty feeling, like I’m just getting a clone instead of the real thing. However, hopping is often such a slow, unkind process that I don’t really like it much either.

Really, I want something in between. Some tweaks I would’ve liked to see to make it easier and less unpleasant:

• Island villagers function like campers, where once you’ve encountered them they don’t repeat until you’ve cycled through everyone else

OR

• Campsite visitor frequency is much increased, say to 1–2 visitors a week

This! I couldn't quite find the right words but you said what I'm thinking.

I know island hopping can be super time consuming but I feel like that's acnh. Its a slow paced game except when I'm always in a rush and time travel. Haha otherwise, I do enjoy island hopping, even being frustrated for the nth time... I could use a skip button for Orville though.

the only amiibos that i currently own are the sanrio ones, but i definitely prefer island hopping! island hopping is one of my favourite things to do in new horizons, and while trying to find a villager that i like can definitely be frustrating at times, i still love not knowing who i’ll run into on each island and who my eventual new neighbour will be! the mystery of it all just makes it way more fun than scanning cards is for me. :’)

As much as I like the amiibo I also like Island Hopping.

There's something thrilling about it that makes it so much fun. Course if I can't find them/run out of tickets and don't wanna bother buying more I just scan the amiibo in.
Maybe except if it is a villager I don't have their card to then I'd go out of the trouble and buying NMTs/obtaining NMTs from treasure islands, (Though I never done the latter) I would never get them from other people's towns unless I'm extremely desperate and want it to be over.

So you could say a bit of both, but Island Hopping is more to my preference.

I actually really like both! If I let a villager move out, sometimes I have an amiibo of a villager I'd like to move in. And sometimes, I just feel in the mood to go out and try to find someone who I've never had in any of my AC towns before. It's great that we have different options of getting villagers.
