🌺 Welcome to Maui 🌺
Dear Reader,

Maui finally has a dream address!!!!
Woohoo! I'd like to invite you all to come visit, but please be aware the interiors of my houses are not done and I will probably be tweaking a few things over the next few days/weeks before the big 2.0 update drops next month. I just really wanted to have my 1.0 island down first! Anyways, hope you enjoy and welcome to Maui :)

Sincerely,
Sarah
(Resident Rep.)

Island Description - Jan 2021
History
Island Rep Sarah and Mayor Diva moved to the tropical island of Maui together from a little town called Aquarius in the New Leaf region. They had big plans to make the island into a resort but fell in love with Maui’s natural beauty and decided to preserve its landscape as much as possible. Now they manage Maui’s small village together and help keep the island clean. Maui offers visitors unique landscapes and down-to-earth island vibes.
Jan. 2021 Description
The island is divided into three regions, the highlands, lowlands, and the National Park. All three regions are still WIPs, though most terraforming and designs are in its final forms.

Maui’s small downtown area is located in the highlands in the center of the island. Judy, Walt, Snake, and Tom live downtown. Maui’s town hall connects the highlands to the lowlands both symbolically and physically.

The lowlands make up the majority of the island, and can be divided into three smaller regions- the island's farm lands, the fishermen’s village, and the oasis. The farm lands are home to Island Rep Sarah, Mayor Diva, and Monty. The fishermen’s village includes Sly’s and Huck’s houses and fish market, docks for visiting ships, and the island Museum. The Oasis is a secluded neighborhood home to Ankha and Chester who manage the adjacent dig site, and currently run the island’s Luau shows. Maui is looking for an experienced dancer or singer to take over this role and become the Luau venue’s new director.

Lastly, the National Park is located in the northeast corner of the island, with a small camp ground in the northwest corner. It is a popular place for hiking, camping, meditation, swimming, and picnicing.

🌺 My first day on Maui 🌺

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Highlights - 3/19/20
firstdaycollage2.png
My first day on Maui was certainly a whirlwind. I arrived on Maui late Thursday night, and met up with the other two residents Diva and Kid Cat. After a brief orientation we gathered around the bonfire for a nice meal and some quality time. After dinner we roamed around the island, collecting what we could to better our simple lives. My fellow islanders eventually went to bed, and I was left to battle the wilderness alone. Before I knew it, Tom Nook was telling me that I stayed up all night, and it was now Friday morning! I thought about going to bed, but instead decided to watch my first sunrise on Maui. My tent had turned into a house, and I spent most of Friday looking at the sky searching for flying presents to give me furniture to fill it. I caught many fish and bugs for Blathers, and even managegd to make some bells for myself. After a long day, I finally crawled into bed and slept soundly. Day one, check!
🎂 Throwback- KK Slider & My Birthday! 🎂
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

KKslider.png

I made the embarrassing mistake of changing into my pjs the night before I saved and quit.
The next morning I was whisked to the Plaza before I could change,
and ended up attending this monumental event in my jim jams...
This is the one good picture I got because my back was turned and you couldn't see my sleep mask!

EZilzzcU8AQzv9B.png

Kid Cat threw me a birthday party in his house! Flora and Diva came too!
It was so much fun, and by far the best Animal Crossing Birthday I have ever had.
Looking back this photo makes me really nostalgic, since Kid Cat has moved on from Maui.
But I know he went to a great home, and has probably made a lot of new friends.

*although this picture is of me on my island, this furniture layout idea is not mine. I totally copied a picture from tumblr. this is the only unoriginal thing on my island.

keywords: Huck, Fishermen's Village

Maui's Island Journal is born! I was inspired to create a digital journal of Maui because of my villager Huck, who recently moved to Maui. I have absolutely fallen in love with Huck, and decided to contact the fellow TBTF member I adopted him from and send them an update about how he is doing in his new home! I had so much fun writing the dm that I decided to make it into a journal. As of right now, I am not done with my thread, but thought I would take a break from formatting and writing the first few introductory posts to add this entry.

Today was a pretty exciting day on Maui since it was the beginning of summer and the wedding season! I was able to collect a few summer shells and craft the shell wreath, which I immediately decorated my door with. I also had a blast buying new summer items from the shops, including clothing from Able's and a surfboard from Nook's!

The focus of today's entry is Huck the smug frog, and his home in the Fishermen's Village.

Huck is one of the newest residents of Maui. Smug personalities are always a bit off putting to me because of their high and mighty attitude, but Huck has definitely broken the Smug stereotype. I knew he was the frog for me as soon as I laid eyes on him, and thankfully he has not let me down yet! Even though he carries his "gold plated bug net" around town, his house is pretty down to earth. From the outside and inside, it looks like a traditional beach hut. I contemplated putting him with Ankha in The Oasis, but I am so glad he ended up in the Fishermen's Village, and so is he! Without further ado, here are some pictures I took today that depict his new life on Maui.

huck6.jpeg

Huck's house along the boardwalk. He has a little fenced in area where he likes to sit and play his guitar.

huck5.jpeg

Huck and his neighbor Sly work together to run the only fish market on Maui. They also sell fun knick knacks!

huck4.jpeg

Sly's house is not too far away, so Huck never gets lonely!

huck2.jpeg

The fisherman's village is a popular place to hang out on my island, there seems to always be someone playing the guitar or the thumb piano when I walk by.

huck1.jpeg

Huck sang for me today for the first time! (Figuring out how to post the video and not just a screen shot)

Huck is having such a fun time on my island, and I am so happy I was able to adopt him. I know we are going to become best friends, and I can't wait to progress in the game with him by my side <3

I decided to make a post dedicated to every villager and area on my island. Every day, I'll try to feature one or the other in some way so I can fill in some of the missing hyperlinks from the first few introductory posts. This way my journal will be more organized since I love to include screen shots whenever I can!

Today we are going to be talking about Judy. Since she is a popular villager, I decided to show you my personalized version of her via her wardrobe so she stands out among the other Judys you may know. Judy currently has 7 articles of clothing in her possession which include a giant ribbon, mage's outfit, night gown, boa blouson, chima jeogori, desert princess outfit, and princess crown. I plan to give her the fairy dress in mint, but currently do not own it so that's why its crudely photoshopped onto her body in the follow image.

judysoutfits.png

Being a snooty at heart and a lover of all things cute and elegant, Judy loves strutting around town looking her absolute best. Her favorite outfit at the moment is probably her desert princess look since she wears it most often.

Something else that inspired me to make this fashion post was the selection of clothes at my Able's Sisters today. It's now June, so Mabel is bringing out new summer looks every day. I am super excited to get my hands on these new items, and in particular I'm very excited about the tube top I have seen many people wear in pictures online. Besides spending more time in Able's than I'd like to admit, I completed my second anniversary photo shoot on Harv's Island and got some sweet rewards. I'm not sure where or how I am going to incorporate these furniture items on my island, but the "garden" customization options have definitely caught my eye. Lastly, after doing my "dailys" I spent some time fishing in the ocean. I am itching to catch some sharks to fill up my encyclopedia (and earn some bells) but luck was not on my side today. Tomorrow I am looking forwards to another anniversary shoot with the happy couple, and I might even do some wedding photo shoots with my own villagers! Who is/will be getting engaged is yet to be revealed ;)

Edit: Forgot to include a pic of Judy's house!

I stayed up way too late last night and was too tired to post my entry...so here it is a few hours late 😅

Remember how yesterday I was talking about how my fishing lucked sucked? Well today that was not the case! After catching hoards of sucker fish yesterday, I managed to catch around seven sharks, an arowana, two arapaima, a saddled bichir, and three dorados. Don't ask me how, it was all a blur. I went on a fishing rampage at 6pm which lasted until midnight...with a few breaks in between, of course. I crafted more bait then I can count, and went through 4 or 5 fishing rods. I also had a meteor shower going on, so maybe thats why I was so lucky! The only thing I was unable to catch was a barrel eye, but that's fine with me! I am so glad I got the dorado and saddled bichir down, since I use to have so much trouble catching river fish in New Leaf (I never finished the fish encyclopedia...). Bait definitely makes it easier in this game, but so does my two "secret fishing spots" I discovered.

EZrh2utU8AAyOrB.jpeg

My fit of the day. I finally got the pocket tee in my Ables and put it to good use with my cool pineapple shorts!

EZrhVghU8AUER6z.jpeg
EZrhaRLUEAAbhfe.jpeg

I have more luck fishing on the right side of my island, which is where the Fishermen's Village is. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it is a popular place for my villagers to hang out, so I got some cute pics of Ankha taking a cat nap, and Snake resting his abs under a palm tree!

EZrhqr3U8AAlbEY.jpeg

There were endless shooting stars, and I felt like I made 100 wishes. I wanted to open up my island on turnip exchange, but I was too focused on catching fish that I didn't get around to it. Oh well, there's always next time!

I couldn't decide what to wear today, and went back and forth between this outfit with the flower skirt and black denim skirt. Both look great, and this has definitely become one of my favorite summer looks so far! (ALSO after talking about how badly I wanted a tube top in one of my previous entries, I found one in a balloon! Amazing!)

I started the day on Harvey's Island only to be disappointed to be doing yet another "pink and white reception" photoshoot, so I decided to change it up a bit and came up with this. I then read online that Reese gives you a range of heart crystals based on how much she likes the shoot and totally regretted going against her wishes. 😅 Oh well! Hopefully it won't matter too much in the end.

I did a bunch of organization and brainstorming today, so click the spoiler below if you are interested in reading about that!

Today I cleaned out my storage a bit since I have over 1,000 items and I'm getting a little overwhelmed. Most of it is clothes, so I'm trying this new thing where I have a seasonal wardrobe, which means I got rid of everything that isn't summer. It definitely hurt selling my beloved checkered chesterfield coats, but I am definitely planning on buying them back when fall and winter roll around. I also finally sold all my extra recipes that were taking up most of the floorspace in my basement, and got rid of some extra materials I was hoarding. Later in the day I organized my extra hybrid flowers and finalized some flower placements near my Nooklings and Ables shops.

In addition to this boring admin work, I decided to start thinking about the top left of my map, which is now the only "undeveloped" part of my island I have left. (Although the rest of my map is "developed" it is not all 100% permanent, just a draft, and might be changed or edited in the future.) I do have a waterfall system mapped out, but other than that and a few extra flowers and weeds, its "blank." I don't really have a plan for this area yet, which is fine, but started to play around with some cool terraforming layouts. I realized that I developed most of my island around various terraforming ideas I had, so I tried to do the same in this somewhat empty space. I really liked part of my natural waterfall system, so I kept half of it, but played around with a "beach peninsula" idea for a bit, but was ultimately kind of a fail. Then I thought about doing a mini "island" more inland and doing two suspension bridges that lead to it, so I am currently working with that idea. Besides landscaping ideas, here are some decorating ideas I have for this area, or other areas of my island in general:
  • National Park
  • Tiki Bar
  • Jungle area with buried treasure
  • Seasonal Event Area (kind of like a mini pocket camp, with the intension of changing the decorations for every new event)
  • Wedding Area??? (kind of basic...)
  • Zen Rock Garden (for hitting rocks)

In other news, Diva gave me a really cool shirt today (layered tank), and Tom was strolling around in his new summer fit. I was sure to post this image in the Official Tom Appreciation Thread because he just looked too dang cute 😢

EZslq6gU0AAiLG8 (1).jpeg

I wanted to write about Ankha and the Oasis today, but I'm a bit tired, so hopefully I'll get to it tomorrow! Over & out 🤓

That Nook rug looks amazing with the garden wedding set; I hadn't even considered that possibility. Would you mind if I took some inspiration from that idea?

Also your journal looks great! I like your villager posts and map key.

Unfortunately I can't see any of Huck's pictures, but that may be an issue on my end. I've found that tech problems I notice almost always end up being issues on my end.

Omg thank you so much 🥰 And yes you may, free to take inspiration from any of my ideas! <3

Ahh thanks for letting me know about the Huck pics. Perhaps there are too many pictures in that post? I'll play around with it a bit. I love the area where he lives, so I'll try to fix it so you & others can see :)

Update: found & fixed the issue! the problem was on my end, so not ur computers fault!

...idk how I feel about this outfit, but.....it is what it is

Started the day off with my usual shenanigans of checking the shops, picking up branches, saying hi to everyone, etc. I had to do some extra clean up because it rained yesterday for like 2 mins in the morning, so there were some new flower buds cluttering my dirt paths. I'll be honest with y'all, today I was feeling little overwhelmed with my island design since thinking about the uninhabited section on my map yesterday, so I took a break from NH and went swimming irl. This actually really helped, and I came back with a clearer idea about what I'm going to do with this area, at least for now. Because its is a complete mess rn, I don't have any outside pics to share with you today, but I do have some inside ones!!

Here are some artsy pics I took of three rooms in my house! My house is overall still a wip, but these three rooms are pretty much done, I think. One of these days I'll do a proper house tour where I will post complete room pics. Not included below is my left room (my bathroom), back room (currently a study), and basement which is currently...an embarrassment. I have never had a basement in AC before because I use to find them 1) scary and 2) depressing because there are no windows. I got one in NH because I needed the storage plus I got the idea to use a wallpaper with windows so its not so weird. I thought about using the sci-fi wall and doing a cool retro space ship hang out room but that idea didn't quite work out. Now my plan is to incorporate the underwater wall somehow, since my house is by the beach, and make it into an aquarium living space or study. Right now the basement is cluttered with fish and bugs I want to sell to CJ and Flick :p

EZxv11mVcAA5S_Q.jpeg
EZxwVAwUwAAnqId.jpeg

My main room/living room, and right room/kitchen!

EZxxsynU4AAUn2i.jpeg

My upstairs bedroom, which I am currently playing one of my fav songs, KK Condor in.

Bonus/Fun Fact:
EZx0BF2UwAIr07H.jpeg
Here is a picture of my second house layout from early in the game. As you can see, its roughly the same as it is now! Although I really like it like this, I'm thinking it might be time for a change...

Doing my daily post kinda early because I plan to just continue working on the top left corner of my map the rest of the day, and I'm not gonna post pics of that just yet. If I have time, I'll see if I can do a villager or area feature post later tn :cool:

Woohoo! Another feature post! This time we are looking at my completed Museum & Museum Gardens! I was planning on doing this post later tonight but the lighting was perfect for taking pictures, and I was really inspired to write this up before dinner!

EZyFinXU8AA9uWv.jpeg

My museum definitely moved around a lot before it found its final resting place on a hill top behind town hall (map). As you can see, this is not your usual museum entrance with the double stairs and huge waterfalls, but I like it a lot. It's perfect for my island, and I am very proud of it! When you come up the stone staircase, you are immediately greeted by my beloved dunkleosteus fossil. To the right of the museum is a zen bridge (see above pic & spoiler below) which leads to the Museum Gardens. My island clearly has a tropical theme and I think this area is a perfect representation of it. Sylvana likes this area a lot, and I often see her walking through the gardens admiring the scenery.

EZyG1SIUcAMMen5.jpeg
EZyGPnMUEAAvTcw.jpeg

EZyGx9MU4AAjNiW.jpeg

The area at the base of the stone steps leading up to the museum is a wip. The first picture in the spoiler below is what it currently looks like, and the second picture is also what it looks like right now from the bridge near town hall. Its ok, but I don't like the gap of grass in between the stone pathway and flower bed. I'm thinking of either extending the flower bed, or putting a bench in or something. It's not a major renovation or anything, just a small detail I haven't gotten around to yet 😅

I also included a non artsy photo of the zen bridge transition area at the end to help you better visualize the space.

Y'all.....things are happening. But before I dive in to todays post, here is my OOTD:

EZ3ZPZeUEAIpMvn.jpeg

So I've been struggling with the top left area of my map and finally settled on one of my ideas I mentioned in an earlier post. I relocated my "pubic beach" and did some major terraforming from there to the waterfalls. I need to wait one day to build an additional bridge, but I promise I'll post a picture of the new map tomorrow with an explanation. I am super excited about it! There is no furniture or anything there yet, but I create better working around set landscapes, rather than setting decorations up and terraforming around that.

I did half of the above yesterday, and today mainly focused on relocating my "public beach." I decided to put it on the beach in front of the "Southern Lighthouse" near my house (
map). I really want to post pictures but I am waiting for some palm trees to grow! Since I don't TT, I'll most likely have pictures ready on Monday. So get excited for that haha. In addition to moving the same furniture from the first public beach area, I decided to move my "Stage ft. Live Music" from "the Villas" neighborhood to the new public beach. To replace this, I'm planning on doing a new rock garden in the Villas next to Snake's house. I thought that would be really nice for him. Ideally I'd LOVE to make this a hitting rock garden (with the special rocks) but I'm not sure if I'm quite ready for that yet, since I've heard its really intense/ time consuming.

ANYWAYS since I was working near my house most of the day, I thought today's post would feature pictures of my house and yard area!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
☀ My House ☀
EZ3cS7KU8AAxezD.jpeg
My house is located on the bottom right hand side of the map. I chose this spot because I have always wanted to live on the beach. Fun fact: I have never moved my house! I live in the "unnamed neighborhood" with Diva and Judy. This area is suppose to be "where the locals live" (as opposed to "The Villas" which is a resort area), so I will keep that in mind when deciding on a name. Currently I have the grey stucco exterior with a black roof and rustic looking door. I really like how this looks, but I have been thinking about changing it up, since I have also never changed my exterior.
EZ3cbDSUcAEI2jd.jpeg
The area directly in front of my house is a wip, but to the left I have a nice bonfire with some stone stools, and my treasured Moai statue on a cliff on my peninsula.
EZ3coCpVcAArNVb.jpeg
Behind my house I have a cute stone patio! I love this area so much, its one of my favorite places to be on my island. Furniture wise its nothing special with the basic rattan set and some crafted furniture, but it really makes me happy. That green thing you see (or don't see) hidden behind the palm tree is a bamboo speaker, which is playing my all time fav AC song, K.K. Faire. And of course, I have the obligatory pet snapping turtle to keep me company. And my hula dancer girlfriend.
EZ3cr28U4AALL1M.jpeg
Since my house is on the beach, I can't make a "grand entrance" leading to my front door, so I created a cool courtyard kind of space to the right of my back patio. I especially love my combination of the stone arch with the zen fence.
Lastly in the spoiler below you can see the beginning of the stone path leading up to my house (from the first pic). Disregard my emo black tulip garden, I'm not quite sure its permanent! Also to the right of my house (where you see the stairs), is the little hill leading up to my lighthouse, and then in front is the new public beach area (separated by the bamboo fence). Like I said, I'll post pictures of this once my trees grow in! I hope you enjoyed seeing my house and yard pictures, and thanks for reading! xx
Since my house is on the beach, I can't make a "grand entrance" leading to my front door, so I created a cool courtyard kind of space to the right of my back patio. I especially love my combination of the stone arch with the zen fence.
Lastly in the spoiler below you can see the beginning of the stone path leading up to my house (from the first pic). Disregard my emo black tulip garden, I'm not quite sure its permanent! Also to the right of my house (where you see the stairs), is the little hill leading up to my lighthouse, and then in front is the new public beach area (separated by the bamboo fence). Like I said, I'll post pictures of this once my trees grow in! I hope you enjoyed seeing my house and yard pictures, and thanks for reading! xx
I love how much stone you use in your town. It's such a great look, especially combined with all of the bright tropical flowers and fruit trees you have. Looking forward to seeing more of it!
Really cute outfit today too. Did those shoes come from the Able Sisters or Kicks? I think in nl they might have actually come from Gulliver but I'm hoping that's not the case this time around, since he so rarely visits my island.
Tysm!! <3
I actually got the shoes from a balloon present, but I looked them up on villagerdb.com and it says you can buy them at Ables! link
Posting a day late because I did some major editing in the upper right hand corner of my map yesterday and needed a break from AC last night. As always before I begin this entry, I'll show you what I wore today!
Decided to change it up and go for a fun look with this sleeveless silk print dress. It actually ended up going perfectly with the vibe today since I was mainly working around Snake's house!
SO right now on my island I have 3 projects going on, all stemming from Project #1.
EaA5QaUVcAAu9qA.jpeg
1) Mini Island/uninhabited area:
I decided to tackle the uninhabited section of my island by doing a cool mini island with two suspension bridges (point A). But to do this, I needed to clear out point B/ "the public beach," which is Project #2.
2) Public Beach: Instead of reworking the public beach to fit the new landscape, I decided to move it to point C near my house and the southern lighthouse. I then decided to move the music stage area from point D to the new public beach location. This left an empty spot which leads us to the final project #3.
3) Rock Garden/the Villas: I needed to replace the empty space in point D, so I decided to create a rock garden. This inspired me to also do some revamping in this area (the Villas neighborhood).
I'm probably going to leave the mini island & public beach alone for a while and focus my energy on the Villas because its so close to being finished! I don't know about you guys, but I like to create my island in stages, similar to writing an essay. I'll have an outline, draft, final draft, then final version. The Villas is definitely in its final draft form. I'll give you a sneak peak of what I was working on near Snake's house. I think its pretty much done, but I might do some final touch ups tomorrow!
My main issue right now with the Villas is that its suppose to be this heavily landscaped resort living area, and I've been having problems with symmetry. Some stuff I will be able to change (for example I'm moving Sylvana's house a few spaces to the right today), but others I can't (since it involves my map layout). This area is really giving me a hard time, because I am a perfectionist and I have two settings: perfectly symmetrical or purposely random, and I feel like this area is falls somewhere in between and makes me uncomfortable.
BUT it is what it is, and I'm trying to find a layout that makes me happy. So, now lets move on to the featured section of today's post
I've been a fan of Snake since New Leaf, though I've never had the privilege of having him as a villager until now! I found Snake on a mystery island fairly recently when I was low key searching for Chester. I was going to pass Snake up but just couldn't say no to him, and I'm so thankful that I didn't! Snake has been an amazing addition to my island, and the perfect neighbor for Tom. His silly grin always brings a smile to my face and I love talking to him, even if all he ever talks about is fitness.
Snake lives on the third floor of the Villas, which is a part of Maui's resort area. These residents are here on an extended vacation and live in luxury. They enjoy various amenities such as a community pool and campfire. This area is still under construction, but hopefully will be done soon! I spent most of my time today working on a rock garden for Tom and Snake, and this is what I came up with. One day I hope to replace the furniture rocks with real hitting rocks! The bamboo speaker is currently playing King KK.
Right outside of the entrance to Snake and Tom's bamboo escape is the community pool and sun bathing area, which you can sort of see in the first picture of Snake. Part of the entrance is still under construction, but here is a sneak preview of the pool area.
Lastly, I'll show you a zoomed out view of Snake's house. As I mentioned earlier in this post, I was having a hard time with symmetry, because the side of my cliff ends at a weird angle and cannot be changed. This kind of threw me off at first, but I decided to just go with it, and so here we are. Next I plan to tackle the second floor of the Villas. For some reason my mind just goes blank when I look at it lol. Hopefully I'll think of something cool to do with it tomorrow, or if not, I'll just work on the other projects I have going on! xx
It rained all day today, so here is my rainy day outfit!
EaHc7BMUcAA-ggd.jpeg
I did a bunch of work in "the Villas" today. Yesterday I left off with a completed third floor area and nothing for the second floor. Today I did some final touches on the third floor (I would have updated pics if it wasn't raining!!), and came up with a plan for the second floor. Is it a good plan? Idk. Is it my plan? Yeeee. :cool: I did half of it today and I'll have to do the rest tomorrow since I'm waiting for some stairs to be demolished.
I wanted to post pictures of my new public beach area since the palm trees and bushes are grown in, but its raining so the lighting sucks. Its ok tho because I might want to tweak somethings about it anyways. Honestly I'm kind of missing the old layout where it was before...oops! Maybe I'll end up moving it back to its original location? :p Hahaha.....
So again, because it was rainy today I wasn't able to take any new pictures, so this post isn't going to feature anything today 😔 Maybe I'll edit it later because it looks a lil empty heehee
Edit 6/9/20
Hello. This is Sarah from the future. I am here to add some joy to this sad looking post. My villagers were being super cute today, so this is the perfect opportunity to show them off :cool:
This last one is a bonus (also an accidental preview of a new area). I caught Judy singing and was desperate to record her, but because she hates being watched while she sings (she will literally look away then stop singing) I had to hide...and well...
