Hi,

I really do love the island concept. I think it leaves a lot of room for expansion in the game with the ability to travel to new islands. However, with the town, I always kinda imagined that there was another player right next to me over the walls. It felt cozy and a lot less lonely! I also enjoyed having the shopping district in New Leaf and the city in City Folk.

I think part of me is just nostalgic for the older games at times.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Not a critique of New Horizons, just a thought! c:

I liked the idea of having main street with your previous villagers visiting and also the city seeing the other animals. It made the game feel more alive. I’m hoping if they make another island that we could visit like Tortimer island that there would be other animals staying there like on vacation.

I would say island if we could eventually build a town on it. The way I have it setup, makes it looks like I do. My memory is pretty fuzzy of NL, but I did enjoy shop and collecting stuff more in it. I also liked how in HHD, there were restaurants and other shops aside from Ables and Nooks. I do appreciate the new options we have with the island theme to this fame like decorating outdoors but I don’t like a lot of the furniture of stuff we can get from any of the shops with the way the game is right now.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I think the deserted island concept made sense in the context of introducing terraforming to the series, but I do hope they go back to a town for the next game - or maybe even better yet, find a way to include both options. It would be fun to visit some places that are towns and some that are islands.

Not that backstory is that important, but when I think about the logistics of the NH universe, it's not very practical, haha. There are thousands of islands scattered across the ocean and the only way to travel is by plane. Either Isabelle, the Nooks, and the Ables live in their buildings on our island or they fly home to another island every night. It was much easier to believe they just hopped on a train to go home to their town at the end of the day.

Yes, I definitely hope that they create another island for Club Tortimer. I feel like the multiplayer gets a bit stale after a while. I also hope that they do bring back Kapp'n!

Yeah, a few months ago I played some New Leaf. The amount of furniture that was available compared to now is crazy. I really hope they bring back more sets with future updates.

I thought I was the only one who thought the island felt lonely...

I do like the intimacy and coziness of a small town:)

I know I would probably like if some more options, more buildings, or additional space was available, primarily because the villagers are the most important part of the game to me and I would like more of them (I have recently felt 16 would be a nice number…)

on the other hand, I really like that the island is it’s own little self contained world and kind of feels like a haven away from everything else. Maybe it is just my anti-social nature, but I like feeling like I am away from the rest of the world and just living off in the middle of nowhere with my loveable villagers. I didn’t even enjoy having a second playable resident on my island and ended up deleting them.

so yeah, I like the idea and experience of a smaller world so far, but given how I have enjoyed the updates so far, if they gave us additional space or buildings or access to a town area I would probably embrace it.

I guess the island thing really plays into my weird loner side. But it just seems so safe and cozy.

I always thought it would be better if the island wasn't the only island. I know it is already as big as it needs to be but there's something about going to another location (other than Harvey's Island). I always had an idea of moving to a second island and decorating that as well and potentially moving there to. Come on Nook, let us buy more island/packages!

Can't deny what customization options are available to us on the island. Like selecting where villager plots and buildings go. But it does seem lacking in a way. I'm not a city person, so I haven't thought about it too much.

Before the game came out, I thought main street/a shopping district would be on different island/in a different location.

Basically the City from previous games. Lots of shops, entertainment, and villagers roaming around. Some of your own villagers, and some other random villagers visiting. Could invite villagers to live on your island as well.

I do miss having all the shops in one central place. I mean you can easily do that in NH, but in NL it was all done for you haha. I also feel like it would be nice to have it separated then we wouldn't be wasting precious land space on the shops. Like I barely use Nooks Cranny or Able Sisters anymore because there is such a lack of items in the game so their shops are kinda just taking up space that could be used for so many other things.

Even though all of the AC games have relatively small worlds, NH feels more "boxed in" than the other games. Every previous game except WW had some form of "escape" from your town. ACGC had the tropical island with its own villager. CF had the city. NL had Main Street, Tortimer island, and Harv's campground. NH just has more islands which feel very similar to your main island. NH has too much of a castaway feel for me. No matter how much you decorate your island, endless ocean is always somewhere nearby. The northern part of the island feels like the end of the world leading to an empty sea of nothingness. Having the bridge on one side and the tunnel on the other side in NL made me wonder what was on the other side. There is just no feeling of connectedness in NH. Having most special visitors fly in day in and day out feels more like business travel than journeying through your town. There are a lot of reasons why I hope they bring back the cliffs, train tracks, gates, and tunnels for the next AC game.

I made my island actually town like. I don’t like the idea of an island. I just feel like an island in my head is all sorts of tropical things and coconut, but that is not what I wanted.
I wanted shopping districts, neighborhoods, paths, and facilities.

I don’t reallyyy think it matters? With how small the island is and how quick the plane hopping is I kinda imagined everything close together like Greece, only the climate seems to have more dramatic weather than Europe’s gulf stream islands so probably in the pacific or something

I definitely miss the town/cozy feel. I don't like how we have so few buildings in this game 😕 I see a lot of other people creating multiple player houses to sort of fill this void but that just isn't something I'm interested in. I know everyone is always crying about this but, give us The Roost!!! lol

As far as the isolation from other players aspect that doesn't bother me. I like the idea of creating my own little isolated utopia. But also I don't think the airport really feels any more distanced from other players than say the train station in New Leaf did.

I personally like the town layout better, but the deserted island idea while it was cool to terraform in ended up becoming more of a chore than anything else. When I was done terraforming my new island that I restarted I didn't want to do anymore of that because I just wanted to chill and relax.

The island really doesn't really give off the same vibes and feels as the towns from past AC games which is really saying much considering that we've just remade an island that is supposed to be kinda like a town with buildings, but it really isn't. Its really weird to me.

Thats sweet that you imagined that there was other players next to you in NL with their own town! I don't think I ever thought of that. For me I always figured that my NL town was surrounded by a forrest and then maybe some random city or other towns where in the area, but you would have to take the train to get there of course. Your town idea makes more sense though lol.

I actually always thought of my NH island being surrounded by other players islands so to me ACNH is more cozy. I imagined that the islands you see in the distance are other players and that we lived in an area of the ocean where there were a bunch of random islands scattered around. Plus I like the idea that my island is mine and that me and my villagers created our own little civilization and town, and that feels cozy to me.
