Good grief.
I'm not sure if you guys have been aware, but today, an election was held in Italy and populist parties gained a large share of seats, but no party has received an absolute majority of votes. The populist Five Star Movement party that was founded in 2009 came in first place, then the ruling Democratic Party that has been in power since 2013, and then former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia and its partner Lega Nord were roughly tied for third (Berlusconi was previously prime minister in 1994 and 1995, and then again from 2001 to 2006, and then again from 2008 to 2011). However, Berlusconi, who is 81 years old now, can't currently serve as prime minister because he was charged with tax fraud in 2013. It's now up in air about who will be Italy's next prime minister, even worse than the situation was in Germany after Angela Merkel was returned to power despite the CDU receiving a fairly low amount of votes this past September.
