On Android phones, there's an app called Animal Xing Designer. Not sure if it comes on apple phones, but it might.
Anyways, it's a GREAT resource to make patterns with. You can edit the colors easily, turn pictures into patterns, and, best of all, generate a qr code from it right after.

The iPhone version is called "QR MyDesign Assistant for Animal Crossing 3DS," but they can only do paths and things, they aren't able to do pro designs :c Still a super awesome tool, though!!
