my town will be forest themed with some city and towny aspects like buildings and stuff. when it snows the tropical theme will feel odd so this feels like an ok decision

I'm actually not sure yet ;m; I already figured out my town's name and whatnot, and I kind of wanted it to be city-like. But it would seem so weird to create the type of city look I'm going for on an Island.
I felt similar at first, but I'm still going to attempt my original plan and just adapt it to the location if/where needed. I'm determined to work with what we're given?and optimistic that the added challenge will just inspire my plan for the better!

My towns are never exactly themed, but I do like combining different styles by splitting them into separate areas. The countryside district (think rural Europe?with quaint cottages, hedge-lined fields etc.) I had planned would clash with a palm-treed beach, but I'd hate for it to be forced into the upper level of the map as well. My current idea is to divide the beach (some "tropical", some not) and hope that'll create enough visual distinction.

Yeah, you're totally right. I haven't read the article but I totally believe you. It's what I think of too when I think of an island.

But at the same time, I think of the (sandy) beach 30 minutes away from my house in cold the Netherlands XD

Oh the article can definitely be skipped?I just wanted to provide some backing for my argument xD
Interestingly though, it actually goes into the misconceptions people have about islands/beaches, and describes actively fighting that stereotype of the tropical island being the only island that comes to mind.

Maybe we should have a thread dedicated to pictures of various islands to show off all the diversity?might help people see that the location doesn't have to be limiting at all ^ェ^

I'm not sure how I will do my island. Though in the trailer I liked how the main character had everything simple with the fences and flowers and all the furniture laying in the right spots. I think I just want to make my island cozy and comfortable so that whenever I come back on, I come back on to a place where I can relax in peace. :)

That's a cute little idea! I think you can pull it off!
I actually wanted my town to have a story and have an inner city look. But I might go the route of a Jungle and if I get another switch I may experiment~

Really hampers my ideas. I like fairy forest, celestial, overgrown forest, horror, and gloomy towns. Trust me, the last thing I wanted was an island... it honestly really killed my hype for this game.

I think "Animal Forest" should stay just that... a forest. Now I wonder what they're going to call it in Japan.

From a user here on the board, it’s still called doubutsu no mori in Japan, and it’s full tile from that user is doubutsu no mori: Atsumari. atsumari meaning gathering

The thing is, from the footage we've seen of the game its still the same old animal crossing so I don't see what the problem is besides having a bigger beach. And this island is anything but tropical considering it cycles through all the seasons, so if you like foresty towns, imagine this island is like... the british isles or something lol. i don't care for tropical things much either but i just keep in mind that its totally possible to turn the island into whatever you want

I'm not sure whether I'm the only one thinking that being on an island is tough to process considering previous animal crossing games. I wish we had the choice to choose! For some reasons I associate it with the island on NL which I didn't quite like it. Nevertheless, I will definitely not have an island theme as I'll quickly get tired over it but I will definitely have a tropical area. I think it's always good to have a mix of different themes so you never get tired.
