As the title says currently just browsing around. Been in the market for a new site and pickings are slim. The last one I lingered in (still somewhat lingering in) was rampant with lack of moderation and spam so I'm shopping around with an eye to leave that one.

Primarily my interests lie with running a small graphics shop to kill some time on occasion, I'm not really a Nintendo fan let alone an Animal Crossing one, but I am a gamer at least. I'd be lingering in the more general boards should I stick around for any length of time rather than the Animal Crossing ones so hopefully you won't hold that against me.

Good luck to you in your search! There's plenty of moderation here and very little spam. It's primarily an Animal Crossing forum (hence the name) but there are plenty of gamers here to chat with. Shay kinds of games/systems do you like?

Yeah I'm aware it's primarily an Animal Crossing theme, but the main theme doesn't ever bother me much, it's more about the activity level of sections I might post in that matters considering how dead forums are these days with Discord, Reddit and the like one has to take what they can get and I miss the old forum days over the instant gratification sites that popped up or at least as a companion to them.

I primarily play on Xbox family of consoles though recently I've not really gotten anybody to play coop games with so with the next generation I might switch things up. My usual co-op partner left awhile back with no explanation and he blocked me on every single method of getting in contact with him so it's safe to assume he's not coming back and all, though it'd be nice to have an explanation considering nothing happened to my knowledge to prompt it, but c'est la vie. I have a laptop that can run some current gen games so I'm looking into that as I have a few rough acquaintances that play there so I wouldn't always be stuck in match-made group or solos for absolutely everything. Sony has some solo focused games so with the gen change that's somewhat tempting, but I do have a long running rivalry with them involving losing my account multiple times (on their end) which they couldn't recover so that's soured me against them.

As for types of games, I wouldn't say I have a specific favored genre really it's whatever seems interesting at the time. I play quite a bit of Gears of War until something the update where they inevitably trivialize the PvE aspects of the game which they recently just did with Operation 4 in Gears 5 so I'm pretty well done for this generation of Gears. Looter shooters are generally worth a good run like Borderlands, Division, etc even enjoyed Anthem up to a point where it became woefully repetitive for no real pay out, the movement was top notch though and I'm patiently waiting for the remake they're supposedly already working on. Pretty much the only thing I won't play are sports games which to me includes racing the vast majority of racing games as well and I avoid PvP only games since I tend to prefer PvE games just as a preference or rather as a preference in the current gaming climate, not a big people person honestly which is why I usually limited myself to one person I regularly pair with rather than a coordinated team.

Very nice to meet you! I haven't played too much XBox or Playstation since the Switch came out. While I do enjoy the games, I usually tended toward RPGs or FPS type games. Throw in combos like Fallout or Elder Scrolls and I'm in heaven but I'm a sucker for older games like TimeSplitters (and TS2), ChronoCross, Morrowind, the Final Fantasy series (before the mechanics of X ruined it for me lol). Ever since my kids picked up gaming, we've been a pretty Nintendo loyal family though. We play a TON of coop games and Animal Crossing (in ALL its iterations) has been one of them.

This site stays fairly active, especially since New Horizons has been one of the best selling games on the market. Hopefully you'll be able to meet someone new to game with! I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Sometimes it's less about what what you could have done and more about what they may have had going on in their head. People ghost for a lot of reasons. I went completely AWOL on every social media platform, changed my number, and stopped talking to even my best friends but that's because I had to kick a life threatening addiction that no one knew I had and I needed to do it without any noise in my head.

This is the first "social media" platform I have been involved with since I deactivated everything in July of last year. Maybe your friend will show back up and tell you what's going on... or maybe they won't... but just keep in mind that it may be more about them than you. David Foster Wallace said (and brilliantly I think), "You'll worry less what others think of you when you realize how seldom they do". We're all so trapped in our own heads, we likely can't see past our own noses sometimes. I hope you at least get an explanation someday but if you don't, don't take it personally. It's possible they're embarrassed about something they said or did and that stops them from being able to voice the truth. Take care of yourself! Do things that make you happy and live your best life. It's the only one you've got. :)

Those are the titles that are really kind of made for PC, whole modding communities dedicated to ElderScrolls and Fallout mods to make them games you can play for years and years, not that you can't do that with the vanilla game either, but new content is always nice.

I still pick up my copy of Legend of Dragoon, when I'm in a gaming rut, beat it about 16 times since it's initial launch on the PSX, kind of annoying to play due to backwards compatibility issues, but worth it for the nostalgia.

For me it's less developing particular loyalty rather more who turns me off their company than what one can provide. Nintendo's direction they're heading simply doesn't mesh with my ideals and whilst I grew up on Nintendo games, there a very few actual Nintendo IPs that hold my interest and being that their online is poor that limits coop on that particular console when there isn't any available in the house hold, it is kind of geared towards children though so no surprise it's a good choice for a family.

Eh no need for any sympathies or anything like that, it's more a hole of boredom than any affections lost. Quite a few coop games coming out too so to lose a duo simply makes one re-evaluate their interest in those games should they have to play them solo. He honestly didn't have much of a personality in that he was effectively a mute so getting anything out of him was a bit of a chore. Played for about 3 hours a day nearly every day for 7 years and I couldn't tell you what he did for a living even, something to do with cars.

I highly doubt he'll return all my previous co-op partners never returned so it'd be illogical to think he'd be any different. As for worrying what others think of me I seldom care at all, seldom deal with people at least outside the household or online and online being a special case it's hardly the same thing.

Welcome to TBT! I hope you find the place you’re looking for and are able to play games that interest you a lot. Yes, this forum is primarily for Animal Crossing, but there’s a lot more to it than that, which is part of the reason why I think it has survived so long. Either way, I hope you enjoy your stay.

Welcome to tbt, lots to do outside of animal crossing chat. Art, collectables, general (but well organised) chat, other games etc
Hope you find a site worth sticking around for!

I'd argue the opposite honestly. The surviving still active forums tend to specialize in their main theme at least from my experience where more general sites like ones just focus on anime or gaming, pretty well died in favor of the instant gratification sites of Discord or Reddit, someplace it's arguably easier to find groups or get quick answers to a potential question in a game. Easier to post on a Discord dedicated to a game and have anybody answer real time than to have a discussion about it after all. When a site is dedicated to a persistent series such as Pokemon, Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing then there's reason for folks to stick around as well especially if that site house particular resources such as databases or trade resources. From somebody who's wandered around like a nomad for awhile now I can say even sites with more members died out if the topic was more generalized.

Honestly, I’ve used a lot of forums in the past and that’s a pretty good point you bring up there. Just wanted to say that while it’s true that Discord and Reddit are better for faster, “gratified” responses, at least in Discord‘s case (can’t comment on Reddit as I don’t use Reddit) both the amount of participants and the answers are a LOT more specific and usually don’t involve as many people (of course this depends on the size of the server/groupchat/etc, but in most cases it won’t have more people than a forum like this). Whereas this is a public forum and visible by pretty much anyone, Discord is only visible by people who choose to make an account and join a group for wherever their interests lie. Not too knowledgeable about Reddit, but I believe it works in a similar way as far as subreddits go (If someone wants to clarify this they can)?

My original point being that while your point about websites like this serving a specific purpose (such as Animal Crossing) surviving for longer than websites with a generalized topic is true, there’s also a lot more to talk about on this website than just Animal Crossing. Obviously, Animal Crossing discussion and trading is going to take precedence over anything else as that is what is helping keep the website going, but it’s not the only thing to discuss here, and to be honest, I’d argue that it offers a lot more than what other forums have offered in the past, and that is why those forums died out.

Just wanted to clarify what I was trying to say in my first post.

EDIT: (should also mention that the staff here is one of, if not, the best moderation teams for a forum in existence imo, and takes the userbase’s ideas, suggestions, and concerns into consideration and makes changes accordingly. Have I seen that on other forums before? Hardly)

Welcome aboard! This forum has plenty of nice folks. I'd recommend trying out forum events that are coming up next month to get a better sense of the community. :)

Reddit is technically a forum though a lite version of them, you post your query and it is like a thread that people can comment on at their leisure which can then be resolved to prevent future discussion after an accepted answer is given.

Yeah, but I'm just saying pretty much every forum shares in that commonality of having off-theme boards, it's the sheer number of members that determine their activity and while this forum is certainly active it's not more active than the large forums were in their hay day. The larger forums died out because before Discord and Reddit general forums worked, if you wanted to find a group of anime fans you went to an anime forum didn't really matter which one as long as it had members, now if you want to discuss an anime you can simply hop into a reddit dedicated to the anime you're watching ask whatever and then move on, no need to actually join an anime forum for that. The age ranges may have stayed the same, but there's also a generation gap between those who were around when forums were the main form of social media. I still remember when youtube was a dating site for instance, times change those who used forums in the past grew up got lives, mass generational exodus can leave formerly bustling sites empty in a hurry. Even those who might have stay tend to leave if their friend circle left and you can keep in touch with a small group easily through Discord rather than all being on the same forum. I'd say there's numerous other reasons the old sites died out rather than merely not having things to offer.

I have a lot of smaller forums did just that as commonplace it was far less prevalent on a site this size however where corruption and favoritism of the staff would be vastly more common.

I did not know that about Reddit, so thank you for informing me.

I think you’re right on a lot of points here so thank you for taking the time to inform me of this sort of information. I believe you’re right that there’s other numerous reasons the old sites died out. I did not mean for it to sound like not having things to offer was the only reason, just that it‘s one of the big reasons. Maybe what I’m saying isn’t coming out right exactly at the moment because I’m tired. 😅

Clearly you seem to be well informed on this sort of stuff though, so I’ll just end my post by thanking you once again for taking the time to respond. I hope you have a good night/day. :)

Welcome to TBT! We are still thriving despite the emergence of newer and more instantaneous methods of online communication. Traitors always welcome. I'm Team Sony personally.
