Animal Crossing: New Horizons was just updated to version 1.9...which means the next update will definitely be a 2.0 update. I vaguely remember asking one of my close friends who is a computer programmer what each of those numbers in the version numbers usually mean, and she said something like, "x.y.z" the "z" usually means a minor update (like bug fix), "y" usually means minor update that adds in minor features/stuff, and the bigger whole number the "x" usually means bigger more substantial features. But she also told me that each number could also be used for almost any type of update as well, but usually developers use the bigger number for more important stuff.

Do you think the next update (the 2.0) update will include anything big (especially since it is going to be the update that literally brings us to ACNH version 2.0)? Just something I noticed. Again I could be wrong about what version numbers usually mean programming-wise, but I do believe that is what my best friend told me.

I’m sure 2.0 will be a big update but we just don’t know when it will be. Even though they’ve been consistent with the version numbers they could throw us a curve ball and just give us a Z update for the next one until they’re ready for a major update.

Ahh i have little to no hope nintendo will come through for us, but hey maybe?! I want them to add brewster, a huge furniture update and quality if life stuff. And more crops and fruits. E.

Ideally the 2.0 update will be large. Really if they just added 1 or 2 more shop upgrades, more furniture sets, and maybe an actual good NPC (Gracie level of good) that would be amazing. An extra building would be pretty cool as well (Kicks, or Gracie, or some combination).

Honestly though, it'll probably be a lackluster update that adds a few decent things, but nothing head turning.

I was thinking about the possibility of the first post-anniversary update being a big one because of it being version 2.0, but for now I'm just leaning towards nintendo simply has new horizons versions go up by .1 each update and reading any more into it would be a tad silly

still, it would be cool if they did a major new content push to ring in the second year

honestly, they could just bring back most all the missing furniture and etc items from new leaf and people would be happy lol

even better if these furniture items get new color options too

Game version numbers have little to do with math and 1.9 + 0.1 can easily end up being 1.10 in this case. (Followed by 1.11, 1.12...)

How games number their versions is entirely up to the developers, however. Sometimes they only upgrade the first number after a major update/rework of the code, sometimes they don't move on from version 1 at all.

Basically they can choose to go to 2.0 whenever they feel like it, but I doubt they will release a bigger update because they ran out of numbers (which again, they didn't). 😄

I wouldn't put too much stock on update numbers for this game, especially if it's just because they ran out of numbers. They could go 1.91 or go to 2.0 with little fanfare.

From my experience, some games have updates like 1.001 to 1.002... and then when a big update comes, they jump up to 1.1 or 2.0 or whatever round number system they're using. That doesn't really seem to be the case here, they seem more linear about it, but I don't know.

It'd be nice. :)

Yeah, I think I've seen games do 1.10, 1.11, 1.12, etc. etc. so that's entirely possible to happen with New Horizons as well. That's not to say that you're wrong; we won't know until the next update does hit. So it's still also possible that it will be a larger update. I hope it will be, and I hope it will be one that people will absolutely love, because the way the community has been with the past few updates now... I just want things to be better.

Yeah I think the 2.0 update will be big. If it isn't, I would be shocked, since I usually saw 2.0 updates and so on being substantial updates with significant additions.

I'm not sure what update was considered the biggest since launch, but the Summer update Wave 1 and Wave 2 I thought was pretty big. They were called 1.3.0 and 1.4.0

If anything, I wonder if it is just a marker for one year. Or maybe this is just my way of not expecting much. Don't get your hopes up because of a number.
Launch was 1.0.0
Year two may be 2.0.0
Year three which is rumored to be the final year of updates 3.0.0 with it ending as 4.0.0

Either way i'm really excited for the new updates, I've had the game since release and it has only gotten better from there in my personal and humble opinion. I can't choose my favourite, but the latest festival and mario themed items and stuff was just pure greatness. My friends and I can run around as luigi and mario? Sold. Now for the new updates with a range of good stuff for the future, I've been playing for years now and still play every week. I'm not bored, needless to say!

I really hope there will be a big update soon, as the anniversary of the game is coming up soon but I don’t have much hope for that to be honest. What i’d really like to see is Brewster make a return, however. I think i’d play the game a lot more in that case.

I'm getting major deja-vu in here....
Honestly though, I don't expect anything. While the number 2.0 seems important, the jump itself from 1.9 to 2.0 doesn't seem significant.

They did say they were going to continue to update it for 3-5 years, didn't they? Regardless, I'm excited for the next update and can't wait to see what gets added.

I think Brewster will return.
Even if it's like a mobile coffee stall like Leif's bush stall, only you get to decide where it goes. :)
