Does anyone here knit? I've been wanting to learn for a long time and am finally trying to get around to it but getting frustrated....Looking to get advice, inspiration, or even just general stories about what you've done/made knitting!

I honestly don't think I'll be looking at knitting anything too crazy, maybe some baby blankets and scarves! But I keep putting off putting in the effort to learn haha

Self-taught knitter here! I've been knitting since 2012 (9 years)! I learned the basics of knitting from YouTube like knit stitch, cast-on, purl, ribbing, etc. I made some scarves, fingerless gloves, headband, and others throughout the years. I have yet to knit a piece of clothing like sweater. 🧶

i've only ever knit my mum a scarf at ''work'' & that's it ... but i had help with it :>

Wow!

I’ve been trying the youtube thing but i think what’s catching me off guard is nearly every beginner tutorial wants you to switch from knitting for the 2nd row directly to another method hahha

i think i’m probably just wanting to do scarves and maybe baby clothes/blankets to start out with

Better than me! Most i’ve ever done is two rows right now

I don't do it (I tried some crochet it basically look like a doll scarf right now) and I've only tried doing like a coconut in school but I'd love to learn. And yeah I agree about video tutorials or just books in general, they're a bit too abstract to me :c

Jelly of you guys who knows it big time though.

yeah we had like textile "sloyd" education in school and one thing was to knit i think so i did a coconut lol.

I tried some of it but yeah a lot of instructions were a bit fluffy to follow so, yeah didn't end up that good.

Oh man...Sounds interesting though!

It's good but the teaching plans weren't sadly, and most of my teachers think forgot people learn differently etc. But it was good to learn to actually sew like clothes or patch stuff for sure!

Today, I decided I would learn
So, behold; my second ever knitted square

It’s slightly messed up of course because i’m still learning but! I’m learning! I can make things with sticks and yarn now!

I knit but prefer to crochet as it's much easier for me to fix my mistakes (I make so many...). I think knitting is great too though, and have purchased some kits to make stuff like ear warmers and hats.

For knitting, definitely recommend first trying out a square coaster or a doll's scarf. Once you get the motion and stitch types down, it's so much easier to feel confident going into a larger, more complicated project.

Also some things I keep in mind while crochet/knitting: thicker yarn = finish faster and have to crochet/knit fewer rows.

I don’t knit, but I wanted to comment here just to show this. Obviously these weren’t made by me because I don’t knit, but someone at my work is selling these to raise money for something. I really like it though!
It’s a snowman drink holder, for the holidays.

That sounds super fun! I’m just wanting to make basic knitting stuff hahah scarves blankets baby clothes etc etc
Maybe one day... Though, i think that may be easier with crocheting

I do not know how to knit, however! I know the basics of crocheting. For some reason though, I refuse to delve deeper than just making basic looking scarves. The first scarf I ever made was dual colors for a friend, but the stitchings between color changes were so fragile, I told him he wasn't allowed to wear it (I was scared it'd fall apart T^T) I have made one more scarf since then, and am in the process of working on another (very. very. very... slowly). I've been on it for almost a year now, LOL. Still no significant progress on it... T^T

Anyways! It's fun, it's relaxing (sometimes), and I wish I could do it more ;w;

I don't know how to knit but I did learn how to crochet a long time ago. My mom was learning so it was something fun we could do together. I started working on a tri-color blanket (mauve, purple, and royal blue), but I only got about a third of it done before I just stopped crocheting altogether. I haven't picked it up again since then, so I'd need to completely relearn it from scratch if I ever wanted to give it another go.

Also not knitting, but I’ve recently learned crocheting! Been inspired by amigurumis and a friend here to do crocheting. I initially gave up because I couldn’t do it properly, but my mum pointed out that maybe I was messing up a lot because my first yarns (which were very thin) and my crochet hooks weren’t paired correctly. I had only borrowed my crochet kit from my grandma, but it did seem to miss a lot of other hook sizes, and her yarns were really hard for me to adjust to because of the rather low quality. Eventually, I just bought my own 16-piece crochet set along with some thicker milk cotton yarn, and I learned pretty quickly! I still don’t master the stitches asides from the basic single stitch, but I‘ve learned a lot from doing my first amigurumi project 🥳

Here’s my first project! It’s a narwhal with a little red mask, very much inspired by one of my favorite Genshin characters (((yes, Childe))). He’s a little wonky and I messed up counting my stitches at some point, but for my very first crochet project, I think I did better than expected! I wish I had bought button eyes sooner though, hehe.

I've gotten into crochet because of amigurumis too! I have a fox one that I made (naturally). I have a couple others that I'm looking forward to starting! Yours turned out AMAZING! 🤩🥰💖

Thank you!! A fox amigumuri is cute as well! And oh same, I’ve been looking through some patterns as well, my next project is a cat :] I’m also going to be gifting my friends and boyfriend some crocheted amigurumis, I feel it’s a really cheap but heartfelt gift, and it’ll push me into practicing more!
If you (or anyone here hehe) have some resources for amigurumis, I’d be more than thrilled to take a look at them!
