What's a queen to a dog?
Hi everyone! I decided to compile a list of minigames you can set up yourself to play with other people, both in local or online multiplayer! If you have an idea for a game that isn't here already, post it in this thread and I'll edit this list to include your idea!
Fashion Show
Source: /u/Lionlyy
Requirements: A white custom design, floor lights (optional), folding chairs (optional), a radio playing a song of your choice (optional), and all models should have some sort of wand. An alternatives includes all of the previous requirements, plus the Island Designer app, and all models need ladders.
Setup: On either the ground or a 1x6 cliff, place the white custom design on the floor in order to make a 1x6 tile runway. Place the floor lights at regular intervals inside the runway - I'd recommend three floor lights for that. Now place the chairs on either side of the runway, a half-tile or more away from it. Place your radio somewhere hidden, and turn it on only when the show starts. Now ask all guests to prepare nine outfits for the fashion show (eight wand oufits, and the ninth is the reverted outfit), including any theme requirements you'd like. Ask them to prepare a pose (reaction) for the end of the runway, too!
Rules: Best played at night. Only one player should walk the runway at a time, while all others stay in their seats. The model gets up from their seat, runs to the runway start (northmost tile), changes their outfit with the wand, and then walks down the runway. They stop at the end, strike a pose of their choice, and then walk back up the runway. The next model should then walk the runway. If the runway is on a cliff, the next model changes clothes while the current model is going down, and only then goes up the cliff.
Chair Dance
Source: /u/tetratara
Requirements: Some sort of instrument or radio, plus chairs or stools, and a prize (optional). Contrary to the name, this game is best played with stools instead of chairs. You have two alternatives: either you play it inside, and only need one less than the total number of players, or play it outside, and need p(p-1)/2, where p is the number of players (not counting you, who'll be in charge of music).
Setup: Place the chairs in a circle if possible. If you're playing inside, test each of them to see if you can run around them easily or not. If playing outside, place circles in different spots in your island, always in decreasing numbers (if you have seven players, place six circles of chairs in one spot, then five in another, etc) until you place only two chairs. Place the prize (if any) between them.
Rules: Players must walk in circles around the chairs while the music plays (you mash the A button if playing an instrument, or leave the radio playing. Don't exit the radio screen!). Once the music stops (you stop mashing A / turn off the radio), players must rush to sit in a chair. The player who doesn't manage to sit in a chair is out of the game. If playing inside, all players must exit the house so you can remove one of the chairs and reorganize them. If playing outside, all players must follow you to the next location. Last player standing wins!
Hide and Seek
Source: PoptartPresident
Requirements: A timer (optional), trees, lots of tall furniture to stand behind if playing inside is allowed.
Setup: Tell the players whether hiding inside buildings is allowed or not. Set the time limit if any.
Rules: One player is the seeker, and has to count to 30, saying each number once. Meanwhile, all other players must hide around the island, according to your rules. The last player to be found wins that round and is the next seeker. Alternatively, the seeker may set the timer to 3, 5 or 10 minutes (according to your rules) once the countdown ends, and that'll serve as a time limit to find everyone. You can reward the seekers who found the most people, or all the people who weren't found in time.
Costume Contest
Source: PoptartPresident
Requirements: A prize (optional)
Setup: Tell players ahead of time what the theme will be, and whether custom designs are allowed or not.
Rules: All players arrive at the island with a costume fitting the theme. Then, either they vote for the best/most fitting costume (one vote per player, and voting on oneself is not allowed), or you decide who wins.
Fishing or Bug Competition
Source: PoptartPresident
Requirements: A timer, a prize (optional)
Setup: Tell the players whether using fishing bait is allowed or not, and set the time limit.
Rules: Set the timer to the time limit of choice. The player who catches the most fish or bug wins! Alternatively, you can have a fish and bug competition, in which there are three winners: the player who caught the most fish, the player who caught the most bugs, and the player who caught the most critters (fish + bugs total).
Hot Potato
Source: Me
Requirements: An instrument or radio, some item (preferably a wallpaper, flooring, rug or wall-mounted item) to use as the potato.
Setup: None!
Rules: All players stand in a circle while you play music. In clockwise direction, a player picks the hot potato up, opens their inventory, and drops the item, making way for the next player to pick it up. The player with the potato in the inventory once you stop the music is out of the game, and it resumes without them. Last player standing wins!
Gift Surprise
Source: Me, accepting ideas for a better name
Requirements: Lots of wrapping papers of lots of different colors, lots of prizes, and as many pieces of trash as players (you can be a player in this game)
Setup: Each round is color-coded. For the first round, you want one wrapping paper of the chosen color for each player. Wrap one piece of trash, and use the remaining wrapping papers to wrap prizes (starting out with cheaper gifts like fruit is recommended). For the second round (another color), you'll have one less player, so one less wrapping paper needed. Wrap one piece of trash and then use the remaining papers to wrap prizes. Keep doing this (preferably wrapping more expensive or rare gifts each round) until the next round, in which you have two pieces of wrapping paper, wrap a piece of trash in one and the big prize in another. If you want to play, drop all of the wrapped gifts on the ground; when the other players arrive, ask one of them to pick the gifts up and distribute them according to your color guide. This way, you'll have no way to remember which gift had the piece of trash.
Rules: Each player takes a gift of their choice and unwraps them. The player who got a piece of trash must say it, and they're out of the game. If you don't trust them, you can ask them to say which gift they got or drop it so you can check. The big prize is, of course, the gift the last remaining player got.
Whack-A-Visitor
Source: /u/directorbonk
Requirements: Six hay beds, a net, and only two players at a time.
Setup: Place all hay beds side by side, vertically, so when someone lies down in the bed, their head is pointing south and their feet are pointing north.
Rules: One player (the mole) lies on the bed, and then rolls over until they arrive at the third or fourth bed. The other player gets their net ready, and sta. The mole starts rolling around, and the player tries to hit them on their head with the net.
Battle Royale
Source: Me
Requirements: Every player must have an axe, and must be trustworthy because this game is honor-based.
Setup: It depends on how battle royale-like you want it to be. PvP needs no setup, but a true battle royale will need you to place paths on your island to mark areas, plus use a timer and not participate on the game.
Rules: There are lots of different ways to start this game. The Battle Royale way is for every player to start inside the airport, and one player is allowed to leave every thirty seconds (the timer can't help you there, but you can use your phone's timer). Standing near the airport once fifteen seconds have passed since the player left "kills" the player, and they're not allowed to play anymore. This is to prevent spawn killing. The Hunger Games way is to have players stand at regular intervals around the town square; everyone is allowed to start playing at the same time (you can use a party popper to signal that). You should not try the Fortnite way, in which players start as soon as they get off the plane, because people's loading screens don't take the same time and a player could be killed while their game is still loading. Regardless of how you choose to start, the rules are the same: once a player gets hit with an axe, they're dead (and should say "d" or "f"), and should go inside the closest building to wait until the game ends. Last player standing wins. If you want to do it Battle Royale-style, you need to set a 3-minute timer; once the timer goes off, the outermost live area becomes a dead area: every player in it dies immediately. The last live area is the town square.
There are lots of ways to win this game, but, at all times, buildings are off-limits to anyone but the dead. Players can try to hide and wait it out, actively hunt other players, form alliances, you all know the drill.
Treasure Hunt
Source: Villagers
Requirements: a prize, an island that isn't fully paved, and lots of Best Friends, who each need to have a shovel. You can't play this game with anyone other than a best friend, unless you play it with a timer and only one local (couch) player.
Setup: Bury the prize somewhere in your island. You can also bury decoys (fruit, weeds, trash, etc).
Rules: When the game starts (you can use a party popper to signify this), all players must run around the island and search for the treasure. First one to get it wins! Alternatively, you can play this in local (couch) multiplayer with a single player by making the other player the leader, setting a timer for three minutes, and they win if they find the treasure before time runs out. Since you're in the same room anyway, you can also set a timer on your phone for a smaller amount of time.
Guess the Fruit
Source: ACNL Campers
Requirements: A shovel, lots of different fruits, a prize (optional).
Setup: Bury (don't plant!) a lot of fruit in your island. Tell players the kinds of fruits you buried (for maximum difficulty, it can be all kinds; for minimum, only two like pears and apples)
Rules: Everyone tries to guess which fruit is buried in one of the holes. Once everyone is done, you unearth it to reveal who guessed right! Whoever guessed wrong is out of the game. Last player standing wins!
Red Light, Green Light
Source: Me
Requirements: None, unless you want to play with a literal light instead
Setup: None, or place the lamp somewhere.
Rules: While your back is turned (or the light is on), players can slowly walk in your direction. Turn around suddenly (or turn the light on), and whoever is still moving is out. Once players get to you, they can go back, until there's only one player left.
Act and React
Source: ACNL Campers
Requirements: Lots and lots of reactions; this shouldn't be played right now by anyone other than time travellers. You should also have a list of charades planned ahead. If not playing with best friends, as many custom design slots as rounds in the game.
Setup: If playing with best friends, none; otherwise, write all charades in your custom design slots, and then place the first one as an easel on your house's main room.
Rules: Tell the charade to the actor (either as a best friend message, or let them enter your house to see what's written on the easel). They must act out whatever is written, without using words, only reactions and actions (running, using tools, etc). Whoever guesses right will be the next actor, and can go inside once you replace the easel with the next charade.
