This is a shame. I loved the original Powerpuff Girls but had no interest in the reboot. I have even less interest in a live-action version.
It’s good to cite a source, yes?

It’s for the CW, which means I have even less interest in it than I initially thought.
This is going to be handled by the people behind the Arrowverse and Riverdale.
How was the cartoon reboot god awful? I haven't had the opportunity to see it.This sounds like the premise of a Collage Humour or Robot Chicken sketch.
I wouldn't mind new Powerpuff Girls material to enjoy, but at this point, especially after the god awful reboot, I would rather it just fade into obscurity with a bit of dignity left.
I hope the self insert guy from the 2016 reboot makes it

Oh that guy that made his self-insert OC date Blossom for like, 2 episodes or something!? God I hope so. If it's going to be cringy, at least take the cringe to 10000000000I hope the self insert guy from the 2016 reboot makes it
Re: bolded statementWords right out of my mouth.
Idk why "original content" is just like, not being produced anymore, but the execs of the world HAVE to stop. I'm not going to buy new edgy PPG merch from boxlunch.
(Shares dollar figures of movies that didn't perform as well as anticipated) ... Hollywood will be taking less risk on original ideas. The numbers on nostalgia have proved that this latest trend just might be the new normal.

These are just a few complaints that I and a few other people I know have, which may not be the aspects that EVERYONE dislikes about the 2016 version, but they are worth mentioning. How was the cartoon reboot god awful? I haven't had the opportunity to see it.
I almost want to look up this self-insert guy now.Words right out of my mouth.

Rather thorough. These are just a few complaints that I and a few other people I know have, which may not be the aspects that EVERYONE dislikes about the 2016 version, but they are worth mentioning.
1) The series focuses extensively on the domestic lives of the characters, rather than on their progression as crime fighters. I quite enjoy slice of life spin-offs, so that isn't an immediate problem for me. However, the quality of the episodes tends to be quite poor, with jokes that rarely land and moment to moment scenes that often feel like compilations of marketable trailer fodder rather than actual stories.
2) Characters are "updated" to fit modern stereotypes.
3) Major villains are treated as self-depreciative jokes with some rather notable irreverence towards the source material.
4) While the animation of the original series was nothing to write home about, the 2016 show looks dreadful.
5) Bliss. Just Bliss.
The following are more related to the production of the show, which while not directly related to the actual quality of the show itself, do nevertheless make it rather contentious.
6) The staff lied about having received blessing from Craig McCracken in order to bolster their image, when to the contrary he was adamantly against a reboot from the start. I'm honestly unsure as to how they thought this would go unnoticed in 2016, when everyone has a Twitter account and can speak their minds, including the person whose mouth they're attempting to put words into.
7) Replacement of the girls' original voice actresses despite the original actresses being willing and wanting to work on the show, while simultaneously rehiring the original voices for literally every other character. The way they treated the original cast for the girls is pretty deplorable. To their credit, they did hire some very talented soundalikes, but that only serves to highlight the pointlessness of their decision.
8) Without going into too much detail because this isn't the forum for it and I would prefer to abstain from getting into a political debate spurred by Powerpuff Girls, the marketing team for the series very explicitly stated that certain episodes were intended to be analogous to serious real world issues. The actual episode... uh... how do you say... butchers the concept entirely, insultingly stripping it of complexity or nuance, and just comes across as extremely tonedeaf. From what I understand, it would later be revealed that the episodes were not originally written to be commentaries on those issues, but that the marketing team saw the potential to use them as such and decided to make statements to that effect anyway, despite the episode clearly not reflecting that.
Even if you can forgive the show's lackluster writing and poor animation, the show is so poorly managed, it was doomed to failure from the very beginning.
I don't know how to respond to this.It was pretty cut and paste of every other 'lol random' cartoon of the time, but really badly done. It also relied on actual memes to some extent which only really served to make the episodes feel dated on their first airing, let alone now.
The writing was generally poor, new characters were poor, there was that pedo guy that basically wrote himself into the show to date Blossom.
I think my biggest gripe though is that it felt like it missed the point of the original in many ways, which whilst I expect a reboot to 'do it's own thing', it should still retain the 'spirit' of the original, which it just didn't.
The opening theme was good though. Shame it was the only part worth watching.
