LOL Loser thinks this game promotes colonialism

How can you colonize an island that is abandoned in the first place?! I believe that this person makes the mistake by believing that the player is taking the island away from someone else, which is not the case, so.... yeah, clickbait is 2020.

Plus, that person didn't even bring up Wisp, the closest thing to the deserted island's indigenous population. >_<

From accusing the dev team of "pandering to 'transtrenders'" for the different localizations for the gender options (ignorant of the fact people in other languages and cultures recognize and navigate nonbinary gender identities differently) to saying the fishing feature is "anti vegan" to saying that the game supports colonization.

Even if all this stuff were remotely able to be proven... my god who actually cares?! Even if you actually are against any of this stuff, why does it matter? Games aren't necessarily meant to be some sort of moral guidance.

I don't support prostitution, gang violence or crime, yet I play GTA. I wouldn't necessarily say I support hunting innocent animals, yet I've definitely played hunting shooting games, including the famous "Duck Hunt". I'm not necessarily in agreeance with worker or economic exploitation, but I'd play a tycoon game. It's not a good idea to go around burning random stuff up, but I loved playing Little Inferno. Like most people would, I don't support slavery but I play Pikmin which pretty much could be stretched to be seen as that.

Some games can not have the best messages in the world, but it's for entertainment. Movies can be like this and even books or music. It doesn't matter though. As long as the game isn't literally putting "Hey kids, you should go out to far way lands and exploit indigenous people" unironically, it should matter. Just enjoy the game.

I honestly feel like 90% of this controversy stuff is just people wanting attention since *insert game here* is popular. It's easy to get your little 15 minutes of fame if you bring something like social issues into the mix, even if it's BS, because otherwise people don't give a crap.

is it about an article? i dont want my youtube reccomendations to be full of grifters after this but i thought this thread was gonna be people missing the joke of that one colonization tweet joke someone did before the game came out lol

article is a self-aware critique of animal crossing through the lens of colonialism. they disclaim from the start that the article is not meant to be taken seriously. people are just missing the irony of the article. no doubt the person who wrote it intended it to be a funny, somewhat educational piece about colonialism via the medium of animal crossing, but it definitely isn’t trying to say animal crossing is unethical. that’s the joke

the youtuber is just another hive-minded quartering fan who thinks that they’re funny enough to warrant posting 5 videos a day about how the left has gone too far.. article did nothing wrong and it’s a shame so many people are missing the humour imo

edit: wanted to attach the thumbnail but couldn’t get it to work lmao

Definitely. These grifters rely on the fact that their audience won't actually read the article / source material.

Ah, The Great SJW War. In the left corner, you have a writer(one writer mind you)who writes an article (again, one article) about a nonexistent problem topped off with the most click baity title he/she could think of to bring traffic to said article. Then on the right, the YouTuber who uses the fake articles to rile up his fan base so that they click and subscribe to his videos for them to make bells off of their anti sjw/alt right fan bases disdain for any all things sjw, regardless of if it makes sense or not. Lovely. Both are using controversy, made up or not, and fans to further their own gains. Nothing more, nothing less.

yeah lol. earlier people were freaking out about the lesbian lines or something. the peppy villagers i think talk about a book they read that involves 2 princesses who love each other. naturally, some guy went on a tangent on his gaming site.

tbh if anything breadtube would love animal crossing. tom nook hates the "city life" because of how corrupt it is and how money is the only thing that matters to the city.
