B

So I want to be more adventurous with my map design. I've decided to make it more mountainous with random waterfalls everywhere. But I can't pick between A and B. The big difference is the 3rd tier cliffs and whether I should sit the houses on them or not.

For me, I like A because I like the idea of houses being on the highest cliff, but it's very busy as well and the 2nd tier cliff has a lot of narrow walkways on it, which I'm not sure if I like.

For B, it's a little more boring because the houses are all on the 2nd tier cliff, but it's much more spacious.

I'm actually leaning more towards B because then I could just add random water falls everywhere and not have narrow walkways in between cliffs which would probably feel tight and cluttered. But I'd still like to hear some thoughts.

Which do you prefer the look of?

Hmm, I guess the biggest factor here would be if you wanted to fill up those narrower areas in design A later on or just use a more nature approach to decorate it. Personally I would pick B if it was my island because I just know I would find insipiration online to build areas and stuff and then A would feel too crowded :d

I would also probably go with B, purely because it gives you more freedom to build anything new you find inspiration for. although I do like the third tier cliff houses! you could always put some houses on cliffs and some not on cliffs so you get the balance?

Yeah for sure, I probably wouldn't leave them empty so it would definitely become too crowded. I guess B it is then!

Yeah you're right! See, I have this weird mindset where I want it to be the same for everyone, so I'd rather keep all the buildings on the same tier. I'm not sure why I think like this, but I've put the main buildings all on the 1st tier as well haha

I personally like A because of the houses on the cliffs. Yeah it'll make it more narrow but I feel like the idea of visiting each cliff is fun and feels secretive (sorta kind of have a fried brain right now, lol/lacking descriptive words). It depends on what kind of decorator you are, but with A, you wouldn't have to worry about dead space which I see a lot of players struggle with. Like they have the need to fill up every space and that could be something you encounter in Map B.

Of course, this is all speculation and that might not even be an issue. But if you lean towards Map B then go with your gut.

I'd go with b, there seems like there's too many little cliffs with staircases with A, which doesn't leave for much room for other little areas throughout your island. A good compromise may be to do something like B but have maybe two or three of your favorite villagers be up on a third level somewhere with one or two staircases. Or to build your house on a third level instead! That's what I ended up doing on my island and I think it flows really nicely!

They both look very nice, but I'd also go with B. I think in the long run, you have more options to decorate because you have more space to do so.

Hmm. It sounds like you really want to try A. What I would do is to go ahead and build A. Mark out where all the houses will be going. And then run around on it for a couple of days to really see what it would be like to just play around it. That should give you a good sense of if you would like to keep the cliffs in the long term before moving anything.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with B purely because I've had a map with narrow spaces walkways all over before, and I grew to dislike it a lot. I do wish the island was bigger so I could put all houses on little cliffs without that problem, but ah well. I've just added more little ponds to B and I'm liking it a lot more now!

i agree with u about choosing B
it would have loads more space and would probably be easier to make
plus u would save bells on inclines

however i still chose A because it looks really cool (both look amazing to be fair) ☆

Thanks guys, and I'm glad you like it :)
My maps have always been pretty simple, and I've noticed I stop playing for a while because of how bored I get of the layout, especially since it takes about 2 weeks to finish a new layout. I always preferred other layouts in dream towns with their waterfalls and was inspired from all of those random waterfalls around Hyrule in BoTW lol
