me being nit picky about the grass

I think the grass and water look better, personally. I admit I'd prefer the ocean water to be a bit more clear, but I think the river looks amazing in the rain and the grass looks good. The winter shows especially look night with the snow.

As others pointed out, if we had the fully textured grass everywhere, we'd surely have the dirt patches back again too! I'll take this compromise over the dirt patches personally. Wouldn't mind tilting the scales though slightly more towards the fully textured grass spots in more places though which I suspect might happen anyway between now and launch.

I actually love the new grass. I think it looks great as is, with the subtle shape patterns around here and there.

Honestly, I do like the new grass more than the grass in NL. It looks nice to me, then again, the grass is
going to be incidental for me anyway when I plan to gonna do paths and all that.

at first i was a little bit iffy about how flat it looked, but then realized that any more texture on top of all the new little grasses/weeds you can harvest would probably be a little too chaotic looking. overall i'm pretty happy with it, although i wouldn't mind if they changed the look of the cliffs/sides of the rivers a little (especially where it meets the grass, from that angle it really does look like cake icing)

a little off topic but as much as i won't miss grass deterioration, it gave us the ability to make kind of more natural, rustic looking dirt paths. the paths they showed in the trailer are so square and chunky, and i'm just nitpicking but i wish the edges were a bit softer

Personally I love the grass and I?m glad they chose to go simplistic. I think that has a lot to do with the weeds and flowers and trees having more details. It makes everything else stand out more. With the weeds, if their was a busy texture on the ground it would make everything look like charming.

I noticed in the trailer that the triangular spots do show up in spots very low key. I prefer this because the textured grass really did seem busy in past games looking back on it. I like how it only shows up a tiny bit for that animal crossing flare

Exactly, I think this is a nice way to split up the grass.

Keep in mind that games rarely change in any major way in the last year of development. It's possible, but it doesn't happen all that often. Only Nintendo game recently that made a significant change in its visuals was Luigi's Mansion 3 at this E3 presentation.

I see this argument a lot but it makes no sense, Animal Crossing: New Leaf underwent some changes but keep in mind that the version of the game they showed in 2011 was still being built. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is nearing completion and only small tweaks will be made.

Nintendo games often finish development up to three months before release so that would mean the game only has around 6 months of active development left. Of course game development may continue to deliver updates later on but it's unreasonable to expect design changes post-release.

It's possible but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Do you really think a game that will be released in 9 months, and its release date was postponed to the next year they wanted it to be released, is near completion?

The game is nearly finished. It was most likely in development for at least 3 or more years now. They probably started developing it before the switch was released. Nintendo themselves said they delayed the game simply because they didn't want their developers to be overworked during the last few months of development when most gaming developers are going though what is known as the "crunch time". During that time employees are often overworked and don't get paid for overtime, and they are often overstressed. It's likely the game was going to be release in November/December. So they most likely delayed the game by maximum 3 to 4 months. Their is no doubt that the game is near complete. I'm willing to bet that they are making last minute touches and changes based on peoples reactions and opinions on the trailer. They might be also adding more items that can be made in the game and stuff, but I doubt they are still working on major parts of the game. I also made a thread talking about how the developers said in an interview that they are currently watching social media to get peoples opinions and reactions, and will be applying those changes if they see they will benefit the game.

The grass looks quite ok, I wouldn't mind if they stick with it's current look and not change it up
before the game comes out.

The reason there was grass patterns was the N64 being unable to render high quality textures. Art direction had to make sure that the grass wasn’t too repetitive and blurry because 50% of the screen was covered with that texture. This is not required anymore. Nintendo Switch can render single blades of grass which is why the ground is now covered in not-so-ugly weeds. It just looks better. Nintendo made the right choice.

I mean regardless if it was delayed or not if the game is in a playable state like this then yes it's near completion. 9 months really isn't a lot of time but okay.

Small tweaks and refinements are being made right now but I can guarantee you that the game will not change in any major way.

*shrug*

It does look really odd to me too, just so, plastic?

I agree that there needs to be a halfway between the old floor and the new one. But I'm actually more attached to the stylised river of New Leaf! I love the realistic ripples now but it's almost too close to an actual river for my tastes. It makes the world look more like a toy/model set with real water pouring through, Link's Awakening style. Which is cool but I miss the handrawn texture thing on top too https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/cho...gendofZeldaLinksAwakening_ND0213_SCRN_04.jpeg

I like that it is simple, keeps it from clashing with all of the new different types of weeds they added

I must admit, I like the simple look of the grass here way more than how the grass looked in the previous
games. I kinda wish we would have had such a grass already in New Leaf. It just fits better overall to the
surroundings we saw so far. Imagining the old grass in combination with the new weeds and such would
look dumb, maybe even overloaded. So with how it is now, it's prefect in my opinion.

me too!!! i mean, yeah, its just grass but i was a little disappointed when i saw it didnt have the triangles! i hope they add that to the final product
