Her eyes were a bright green, her skin a pale pink. She never fit in, at her school everyone was stuck up and murmured and muttered around about her, including begin rumors about her. She always tried to keep her spirits up, being called the ''peppy weirdo'' of the school. What little friends she had, were great friends.
''Hey, Indigo!'' one of them (Lila) said to her. ''How are ya? How was your weekend?'' Lila smiled. ''Oh, great. My mom bought me this cute plushie rhino thing? I think on the tag it said her name was Merengue? I've got her in my bag, let me show her to you!'' Indigo took the Merengue plushie out of her bag. ''Uh.. is that a rhino-cake? Its a bit weird, but cute! I love its eyes!'' Lila played around with the fabric on her eyes. ''Yea.. uh.. she's cute.'' Indigo said.
''HAH! Look, Its Indi-freak!''
Indigo walked to her seat at the back of the classroom with her head hanging low. ''Indi-freak! Indi-freak!'' The 'classmates' she once knew as best friends taunted her, chanting the insult. ''Nice one, Hannah!'' A girl sitting next to the overly-snooty cheerleader commented. ''Its not a 'nice one'! That was really mean, what you said!'' Indigo retorted. Hannah, the cheerleader, opened her mouth and picked up her pom-pom, but clearly thought better of it. ''Hey, lets not waste our breath on this little ant!'' The class burst into laughter.
Hannah flicked her perfect gold locks of hair to the side, the blue bow on her matching blue cheerleading dress sparkling in the sunlight.
''Alright, alright. Calm down.'' The teacher, Miss Illian said softly. She had a young look, and she adjusted her tortie-specs. ''Indi-freak, Indi-freak!'' Hannah quietly taunted in Indigo's ear.
''How was your day, Indigo?'' Indigo's sister asked. She was cooking something in the kitchen. Indigo took a peek. ''Just as every day, Anya. What do you think of the toy Mom got me?'' Indigo held out Merengue in her face. ''Lovely! Um.. what exactly is she?'' Anya questioned. ''A dessert-rhino? I dunno, but she's SUUUUURE cute!'' Indigo grinned. ''Well, thats nice! Are you hungry yet? For dinner, its PAAAAAANCAKES! I didn't know what else to make..'' She flipped the pancakes into the air. ''YAY! I'm hungry, so while you make PAAAAANCAKESSSS I'll be waiting in the living room!'' Indigo dashed to the living room, putting Merengue on the pillow next to her. ''Now stay there, Merengue!'' Indigo whispered, tickling Merengue's strawberry nose.
A few hours later, Indigo was getting ready for bed. ''Mom's coming home at 10pm, so you won't get to see her today. Or tomorrow, for that matter. She has to work even harder, ever since, well.. you know what happened to Dad.'' Anya said, while brushing Indigo's hair. She sighed, remembering the terrible car crash, the drunk driver that took Dad's life. ''I'm gonna go brush my teeth.'' Indigo picked up Merengue, and ran to the bathroom to brush her teeth. ''I'll always be here, to protect you, to keep you safe.'' a small, sweet voice whispered. ''Anya? Did you say something?'' Indigo asked. ''Naah, must be hearing something.'' Anya said. ''Oh.. Okay.''
Every day, the voice grew softer but louder. Every day, taunting from Hannah. And every day, Anya comforting her from the bullies. One day, Indigo grew tired of the voice. ''Hey, is that you Merengue?'' What am I doing, this seems CRAZY.. Indigo thought to herself.. but she was wrong. ''You've finally spoke to me! I've seen your pains, and its happened to me. I don't want it to happen to you, or ANYONE.'' Merengue squeaked. ''Uhm.. hang on..'' Indigo picked up Merengue and took Merengue to her room. On the way there, Merengue was giggling all the way. ''I can finally talk!'' She laughed, smiling. ''Is this real?'' Indigo asked Merengue. ''Of course, silly! Don't you know that every child in trouble and/or pain gets a spirit plush? Well, now you know! I've been assigned to be yours, and i'll make the sadness go aaaaaaalll away!'' Merengue stretched her arms at the end of her sentence. ''Uh..''
''So, you've been kind of taunting Hannah in her dreams?''
''Not exactly.'' Merengue replied, scratching her head. ''You see, we just teach you how to deal with them and help you!'' Merengue grinned at Indigo. ''Indigo, its time for bed!'' Anya yelled from her room. ''Aw... 'Kay. Merengue, do you wanna sleep on my pillow or do you want me to make a mini-bed for you?'' Indigo asked Merengue. ''Don't mind!'' Merengue said. So she slept on a pillow in the corner of the room.
Every day flew by, as Indigo became more and more happy with herself, and gained more and more self-esteem, and friends. The days flew by. Noone really noticed Merengue in school, so thats how the days went. The days went by, and eventually, Animal Crossing came out. All the girls at the school had the game, and so did Indigo. ''Hey, Indigo!'' Lila said. ''Have you seen one of the new villagers? I think she's your plushie! Her name is exactly Merengue, and she's a rhino that looks like that!'' Lila squeaked. ''Really? I'm gonna try and get her in my campsite to get her to move in! Yay!'' Indigo said. ''I never thought I'd be a video-game character, like Rosie or Stitches! They are both spirit plushies, like me, and have been announced to be in the game! Yaaay!'' Merengue flailed her tail in the air. ''Calm down, li'l Merengue!'' Indigo whispered. ''Keep it cool, I don't want people to think i'm a freak again!'' ''Okie Dokie!''
