I work with sai! ;-;

i usually use multiply mode layer to shade!
and screen layer mode to put highlight!
as for picking color i don't really have any tips!!

that's should make up for cell shading type
so it's like lineart => base color => shade => highlight
and all in diff layer! hope it helps~

google might be great for getting speedpaint or tutorial too!
