I really want an Animal Crossing game for the Switch! I don’t have a Switch and definitely do not plan on purchasing one anytime soon. However, I would immediately go buy Animal Crossing and a Switch the day Nintendo decides to release a new Animal Crossing.
At least they have acknowledged the fact that we've been waiting. They seem to be listening a lot more to fans recently, but unfortunately that doesn't correlate to them acting upon our wishes. AC switch could come anywhere between this year or in another 6 years time, there's just nothing guaranteeing that we're going to get something anytime soon.
Basically sounds like PR talk for "We've heard your complaints, now shut up". I've wanted Mother 3 to be localized for years, but I'll believe it when I see it. As for Animal Crossing, it's pretty much inevitable and Nintendo would be stupid to not make a new Animal Crossing game for the Switch.
In that case, AC Switch since Earthbound is discontinued, as in they have no intention whatsoever of making another one. I have a feeling they may have another time to say that it’s officially discontinued as well.
As for AC Switch? Who knows how long that will take to come out.
Like Jake said, they have been saying that in regards to Mother 3 for years. They're empty words just meant to assuage the discontent from the fans. Honestly, while it would be nice to see Mother 3 officially given a worldwide release, I kind of dread the localization changes that might take place to make it more palatable for the US market. I feel like it would lose some of the charm that makes the game what it is. Maybe if they got Marcus Lindblom, the guy who was in charge of EarthBound's localization, I'd feel a bit safer with that. He left Nintendo in 1996 but recently worked on Star Fox 2's localization for its release on the NES Classic Edition, so who knows.
As for the next main series Animal Crossing installment, that's not something to worry about. It will come in time, unless there's some national or worldwide disaster and in that case it would be among the least of our worries. Not really worth stressing over until they actually announce or show something about it so we know what the game's like and when it would be expected to release.
These two games are ones I really want to see on the Switch and they are why I haven't bought one yet and why I bought a PS4 instead last summer. Of course, I really want Sin and Punishment on the Nintendo Switch as well...
