i adopted tofu 4 weeks ago from some random lady in a walmart parking lot. shes 4 months old now. well i got her spayed and they said she was flea free so i assumed she was fine, but then i just realized that she had fleas yesterday :( i assume she got them from the shelter when she got spayed but i feel like such a bad owner... i got a flea comb and combed her out and got her a flea collar. i cant believe how well they hide... i pet her and groom her all day and i never have seen any jumping from her ;_; i feel so bad tofu

At least you’re taking care of the problem, Tofu knows you love and care for her! Flea infestations can come in cycles, just know a flea collar doesn’t necessarily kill the fleas. It just tries to prevent them from hanging around. What a cute name for a cute cat :giggle:

What a cute kitty!

You have no need to feel bad. Fleas are something that comes with the territory of pet ownership. They can get them from all kinds of places. What matters is that you are working to take care of the problem before it becomes a bigger issue.

And fleas do hide well. My dogs have had them multiple times, but I rarely see them. I only know when they start scratching a lot.

I use a chemical flea preventative that you apply to the back of the neck, but sometimes even they don't work and your kitty is probably too young for them anyway.

Just keep grooming her and she'll be fine. A good bath will also help kill them if it gets too bad.

Things happen! The fact that you are taking care of her and trying whatever you can makes you a great owner, don't let something like this change that in your mind. She's still being taken care of and is loved and fed and the fact that you care so much means that she is also cherished. My cat got fleas as well from my roommate's dog and I felt the same way. I gave him multiple flea baths and had to spray our carpets with anti-flea spray as well as washing all of our clothes just in case and that seemed to take care of them well. We got a flea collar but it didn't really help as much. If you do end up having to give her a bath make sure you put soap around her neck first so the fleas don't try to hide on her head!

As long as you're taking care of it now and brought her to a vet you shouldn't worry about it, pets can get into things and you only just received her recently.

Oh poor baby! :( I hate it when that happens. This happened to one of my kitties when I first brought him home from the vet. It's really hard to get rid of fleas. My tip is to wash EVERYTHING. The same day that you treat the fleas, treat the carpet if you have carpet, wash all of the bedding / et cetera that she might lay on or interact with regularly. If you have hardwood floors, mop and vacuum. It gets everywhere and they're very stubborn, they'll stay in every fabric and come back if you don't get rid of them in the environment at the same time that you get rid of them on her.

I really hope that they'll leave!!! Poor baby. :( She looks like SUCH a darling! I love blue/grey kitties so much. And congrats on having a new friend at home!!!! :)

she's only 4 months old and you had her spayed? every vet I've talk to here says they have to be at least 6 months old.

anyways a flea collar is your best bet, we have flea collars on our cats and my dog and I do still occasionally find a flea but they're not rampant anymore.
