My Review of Pocket Camp

While I did not follow the entire series, Animal Crossing back on Gamecube was one of my favorite relaxed games (alongside harvest moon). This being said, the gamecube version of Animal Crossing was my golden standard going in and this mobile version has not disappointed me so far! For reference to those who have already played the game, I am level 37 in Pocket Camp (which is decently far in).

Pocket Camp definitely feels like a mobile assimilated version of the Animal Crossing game that I used to love. I have played my share of mobile games, so I knew going into this what to expect. The game does follow a very traditional mobile builder. There are two primary currencies, 3 building stations (once unlocked), and the premium currency is used to speed production, unlock inventory and player store slots, along with other common uses of premium currency in all builders. Many may see these things as a negative, but to me it feels to have been well done in this instance. Its a free game so the purchases help support the game (and are completely optional). I do not feel at all forced to buy currency, plenty is awarded, so its really just there for players who want to boost ahead. Slow and steady wins the race, so if you pay to boost but then stop playing for a month or give up then it was all for none.

To the gameplay:
I definitely expect updates (like all new games) with more content and different things to do, but where it sits currently is good for the time being. Currently you gather resources and try to stay topped off. Every 3 hours the map resets and new neighbors appear to whom you can assist by giving them requested items. The items are: fish, fruit, and insects; and you gather these items by the very familiar Animal Crossing mechanic. Each neighbor has an experience bar, fill the bar by completing favors and then they level up. You gain player experience each time a neighbor levels up, and unlock new neighbors most every time you level up. Each neighbor has a unique item that you can unlock by getting them to a certain level. This takes time and is a grind, but I enjoy it. You must also level up different tent styles and other attractions at your camp to further increase the levels of different neighbors.

All in all, the game is off to a good start and I look forward to seeing it improve! Oh and the graphics are lovely.:D
