Yesterday I unlocked the feature where you can place down plots for villagers to move into. Yesterday I placed down a plot and today it says that it was sold to Ike. Since I already have a plot that is sold, will villagers still appear on mystery islands if I place down another plot of land today? Or not because one of the plots is already sold.

You will have to place another plot down. I'm not sure if not placing one will impact whether or not villagers will be on a mystery island, I don’t think it will, but it will impact their ability to move in, if you don't have one down.

As Foreverfox kinda said, the villagers on the random islands only appear when you have empty plots. If you're not ready to have all your villagers yet I'd recommend leaving placing the plots as they have to be filled whether that's by you, or by the game. I did that on my 2nd island, and waited till I was ready, and started gradually adding more plots and then villager hunting

Yeah the thing was I wanted to go villager hunting today but if I place a plot down now, I’m scared there won’t be any villagers on the islands since I already have one that is sold. Sorry that's my bad for not reading things properly :L It's only one per day as I remember, so if you wanted to carry on villager hunting, you have to TT backwards or forwards a day and do it that way. Sorry for the confusion :L
