Mystery tours are kinda pointless..

They are good for crafting materials, plus you get a hidden object in a tree and a fossil in every island! They are also good to catch fish and bugs since they are smaller than your main island. I'm not sure what people would expect from those... if you get hybrids or foreign fruits every time the island tour would be too OP.

Nah, I find them very useful. I stock up on crafting materials so I don't have to decimate my own island and collect all the fruit to trade or sell in other islands. I just bring the bare tools and make what I need if something breaks.

Once I found an island with foreign fruit so I just dug up the mature trees and replanted once I got back. Instant gardening! Same for flowers and coconut palms.

Based on what others have posted here, it seems the rare islands have approximately a 10% spawn rate. That's not too bad in the overall picture. The game has been out for less than a week and I get that players are excited to unlock something new asap, especially when others are posting about their rare finds and/or good luck. Still, AC is the kind of game where things will unlock for you as you keep playing so keep at it! :D

I find I get Nook Miles all the time, and not because of the tiered ones but the Nook Miles+ can really stack up even if you're just playing the game normally.

I only visit the islands if I need a lot of crafting materials, I haven't come across many special ones. And maybe later in game when I can welcome another villager!
I only had one good island where all trees had peaches where my native is oranges, so I took home like 60 peaches and made some good money. :) All others were pretty meh, but still good for resources. Had one where every rock gave me only iron ore.

You can be very lucky or unlucky. Either way, you're getting a lot of resources out of it. I got a bamboo island yesterday, lots of bamboo resources and I also managed to get 5 bamboo seeds out of it for my island. It's a gamble. Also you run out of NookMiles items to buy anyway.

I only go to the island if I have some space for a new villager. I kinda gave up on getting a rare island lol.

I've never found anything good, and I've been really hoping for the bamboo island.

I do find they're a waste if you approach them as something exciting but if you just think of them as wood and ore farming you will be fine. Every island I've visited has had at least 3 rocks to hit for resources as well as coconut trees. I did find one island that had roses which I stole 3 of each color. Other than that, it's just a trade of 2000 Nook miles for some wood and clay or ore.

I absolutely love the Nook Miles islands. You never know what you are going to get and they are just a bit different. They are really handy for getting more materials. I've gotten enough iron to fund all of my projects so far and all of my husband's big projects pretty effortlessly. I stumbled across the bamboo island twice. I spread the love to my friends who love bamboo since I don't particurally enjoy it.

My favorite part is meeting villagers and going on the hunt for messages in bottles for those DIY recipes!

I have only gone about 6 times, but of the 6 I got tarantula island, bamboo island, and island with a bunch of rocks on it and cherry island...I would say that isn't bad at all. Every island but the cherry one had my native fruit and I have not come across an island that didn't have coconuts yet...do bananas even exist in this game?

I found an island that had a high spawn rate for Koi. I collected about 5 of them in my time there.

The islands are an excellent place to farm iron. I probably have over 100 nuggets of iron now. I can easily earn Nook Miles from Miles+. So I visit the islands about 2-3 times a day. Still have over 30,000 miles that I'm trying to save for features in the future, such as terraforming.

I think it's a shame we can't go these islands with anyone else, but other than that I think they're fun! As others have said, they're great for the extra resources. Anything else I consider a bonus.

If you are only going to islands in search of specific villagers or rare islands then.... you arent going for the right reason o: the islands are primarily for resources when you have exhausted your town of all the wood/branches/rocks. That's why the majority of the time these islands are "boring". The rare surprises are just added bonuses :p

i just feel like the least they can do is always have different fruit/flowers :( not ebveryone has friends they can play w all the time so coming back with your same fruit and flowers kinds sucks; also, like others have said, a multiplayer option should be available, or at least another island tour option

Agreed. Can't seem to get enough tree branches and iron nuggets due to breaking tools. Even if the island is "boring", at least you can get more of those. So I think it's worth the 2000 miles. If you visit the island in moderation, 2000 miles is not that much. I only visit it once I day, and I still end up with tons of miles to spend on other things too.

I'm stuck in the time where no villagers are on them and yeah, it feels kind of pointless. At this point I feel like I'm more visiting them for the random furniture I can shake from a tree and also the hope of a DIY recipe in a bottle on the beach (which was something I was seeing consistently, but now I'm not seeing them anymore, so I don't know).

I use them for resources, getting messages in bottles, a furniture item, and I now have Marina thanks to the island. I like them! I do wish I could see more than two types of flowers (one is my native) and two types of fruit (again, one is my native)
