as someone who lives in an area that doesn't get natural disasters like earthquakes, i find the concept of them so crazy. like i cannot imagine it being 'normalised' that every now and then the whole earth just shakes and you have to hide in the basement or whatever but it's fine because it's happened before
1.What type of natural disasters happen in your area?
Earthquakes and wildfires 2. What sort of natural disasters have you been through/witnessed? How bad were they (add richter scale, category, etc if you know/want!)
The earthquakes are usually not noticeable, but the wildfires happen every year. They tend to start in July and end in September. This year we were still having some in October. Usually the sky turns grey and it looks foggy. One year the sky was orange. It usually smells like a campfire except much stronger. These didn't really become common where I live until 2017. 3. How much do they scare you? How do you cope with this fear?
The fires are far from town, so they don't really scare me. Instead I get frustrated with not being able to safely walk outside without damaging my lungs. 4. What sort of natural disaster fascinates you most?
Tsunamis interest me. I've never seen one in person, but it's interesting how they form and how much damage they can do.
I live in Hawaii and we almost never get extreme weather or natural disasters. We occasionally get really small earthquakes, maybe a small tsunami. Most hurricanes weaken to tropical storms by the time they reach us. However, last year 80% of my town burned down from a wildfire.
I think an extreme weather type that fascinates me are earthquakes/tsunamis and volcanoes. But honestly just anything Earth science-related is really interesting to me.
