So, I'm thinking of making my town natural (I've just reset as I'm joining the 1/1 reset). I've thought through the pros and cons of having one...

Pros:
- I don't like the block-y look of pattern-based pathway. I find it too sharp and choppy.
- I think that natural paths are really cute and I love the way they fit in with the natural look of Animal Crossing.
- I've always loved the natural look of Animal Crossing, so much so that I've never been able to commit to one town "look".
- I can't create patterns for the life of me and finding the perfect one online isn't easy.
- Placing patterns is so much effort and takes forever. I tried this out on a tiny section of my old town and it was way too much hassle.
- I really don't see much appeal in plot resetting. I get that it isn't supposed to be "fun" but I don't see the point. With most pattern-pathed towns, I see people talking about they have to do so much plot resetting but with natural paths I feel it'd be easy to work around a new house.
- I feel like the upkeep of natural paths would help me come back to Animal Crossing every day and keep me interested.

Cons:
- I have no idea what I'm doing.
- And finally: the big downside. While easier than patterns - in my opinion - natural paths require a whole lot of maintenance and upkeep. Like, a LOT.

So what are your guys thoughts? If you have the DA's of any natural towns I'd appreciate it (although I haven't built my dream suite yet) or any advice you could give me that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

IF you time travel regularly, natural paths aren't hard at all to maintain, provided you go one day at a time instead of jumping 3+ days in one go. But if you play one day at a time and don't like the idea of having to repeat the same action +save, action + save every time it would be a pain to keep them maintained.

I personally love the look of natural paths in a nature-themed town, I think it's prettier than any design. I couldn't keep up with the maintenance myself though. Mad respect to those who do.

props to you if you can do this! dirt paths are def way better than QRs :)

edit:
sorry this isnt very useful haha :( i dont have any advice, but good luck!!!!!

Problem with that is that you aren't aloud to time travel in the 1YC.

I say go for it. It might be harder to do right now because snow patches up grass wear and dirt. But I think it would look really nice.
You could also use clovers, maybe?

Clovers are a great idea! I just don't know how I'd get enough of them :p

Ellesanimalhaven on tumblr's town Kokoro is my favourite with natural paths c: http://ellesanimalhaven.tumblr.com/towns
Lanternflies' two towns Florence and Paw Paw are also natural with amazing landscaping. Florence doesn't use QR paths, clovers nor dirt paths so I recommend you check that one out! http://lanternflies.tumblr.com/towns
I also have a town Lakesong which is a natural town but uses stepping stone QRs and clovers for paths (6900-5375-4286) if you wanna check out a few towns for inspiration c:

Thank you! I'll check these out now!

Im doing the same for the 1/1 challenge! I'm using natural dirt paths as well. My inspiration came from the town: 5400-5156-3738. You can grow weed, clovers and mushrooms on them! I really like that the dirt paths curve unlike patterns. Good luck ❤️

I can't wait to see updates of your town on the 1/1 reset thread! Good luck to you too! :D

I'm going to at least attempt making dirt paths to my one year challenge town. If it doesn't work, I'm not going to have paths at all. I really dislike having pattern paths in my own towns, altough I think they do look nice in other people's towns. I've had dirt paths in parts of my town before, and didn't find maintaining them to be much trouble. They formed where I frequently ran anyway, so they weren't much effort. You just have to be patient, run around some more than usual, and save more often.

I'll start making them after the snow is gone. I encourage you to try as well!

Yeah this sounds like a good idea! You can put down forestry/earthy QR code pathways to hide any rundown natural paths so the maintenance isn't so bad. So themes could be anything mystical, fairy, magical, greenery, forest, wood kind of style town or just putting in things you like in your town sometimes that helps start it out xD

I have natural paths in my town for the most part (i have small decorative paths around some pwps and a bamboo forest i'm working on). I don't do any kind of maintenance on them though, so the bald spots in my town are unintentional and from where I happen to walk the most. Overall, I prefer natural paths over decorative ones.

Im just gonna leave my two cents here: I tried making dirt paths last year and after a little over 27 days they came up very cute and nicely on a third part of my lower map, however, i spent a 5-6 days off acnl and when i came back to my town...they were gone. All 27 days of hard work gone. :( Then came the snow and no matter how much i ran, walked, save and quit, i could'nt seem to create them again after spending days on end trying to recover them..its a commitment alright lol!

I think the natural paths are pretty! I second the suggestions to see about finding some QR natural patterns to supplement/change it up, like with stones or flowers.

My town has natural dirt paths, and I've had a really easy time keeping them up. I haven't gone to the winter season though. I just keep TTing back to summer (I play in the fall mostly). If you'd like to visit, my DA is 5400-5816-2751. It's not finished as far as flowers and a few PWPs are concerned, but the dirt paths are all finished! Oh and the season is wrong too. It's updated in the late summer. The first paths you'll see when you enter are paths with a stepping stone I made and there's a path to the campsite with the stepping stones and clovers and mushrooms. The other paths are just dirt though, so there's a few different varieties of the types of natural paths you could have. ^^

I'll visit as soon as I get my dream suite! :)
