Hello!

My grandmother has a 3DS XL, and she loves it. She tried playing ACNL; however, she gave up because she said there was too much to do, and that it made her confused. She said she wants to try another game like AC though.
Can you recommend any games for 2DS or 3DS that are similar to Animal Crossing? She's tried a couple Harvest Moon games, but had the same problem as with ACNL.

Thanks!

Maybe Tomodachi Life or Fantasy Life? I haven't played them but to me they look easier.

Fantasy Life is more of an RPG and I could honestly see your grandma getting confused just like in ACNL because there is tons to do whenever you want. In general Fantasy Life isn't at all like either ACNL or Harvest Moon. Tomodachi Life is definitely significantly less complex but all you really do in it is watch your miis do things and sometimes help them by doing the same/similar things over and over again, so Idk if your grandma would enjoy it, you'll have to judge that for yourself.

Tbh the only game I can think of right now that's similar to ACNL is Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, which is a lot less complex than ACNL, so I don't think she'll get confused. I would only get Happy Home Designer for her if she likes the interior design and making houses part from ACNL.

Hmmm good point, maybe Hometown Story? I heard that game was easier. It kinda seems like a Harvest Moon type game?

I like the Happy Home Designer suggestion. The only thing you can do is decorate houses and buildings. That might not be too overwhelming.

I definitely disagree with Fantasy Life. That has more to do than even New Leaf. If grandma finds New Leaf overwhelming, Fantasy Life will be worse. Especially since it has battles and battles can make you have to react quickly.

I'm really struggling to think of what she could play if she finds New Leaf too complex. The best game I can think off of the top of my head is this: if she likes crosswords, try checking out New York Times Crosswords for the original DS (obviously playable on 3DS). She can take all the time she needs to think and there's only 1 thing to do - solve puzzles. My grandparents always liked crosswords. I don't know if she does or not.

Oh, if she can play regular DS games, how about Brain Age? Oh Nintendogs!

Nintendogs is a good one, but if she finds Animal Crossing too busy, I'm not really sure if Nintendogs will work for her either.

There are some nice artsy games like Art Academy is she's creative. There are also games like Tetris and Sudoku which help with keeping the mind sharp. Other than those two categories, I think you're out of luck, unfortunately. Like the others said though, Happy Home Designers is a really good bet. It's simple, it's focused, and it's self-paced. She might really enjoy it.

Another good idea would be to look through the online games catalogue on the 3DS. There are a lot of easy indie games that aren't very expensive. If she ends up not liking the game, then you don't end up losing too much money. Plus, there are a TON of demos, so she can try stuff out.

How about Disney Magical World? The game has battles but they're much simpler than Fantasy Life. She may like Professor Layton too and probably, Style Savvy?

My grandma really enjoyed New Super Mario Bros. (the original) Because of the little minigames you can play (they're also in Super Mario 64 DS), but Professor Layton was a good game for her as well.

Personally I think that Picross 3D Round 2 would work too.
You'd just have to help her get started. :D
