So I've got this English task where we have to create something based on an extract from Great Expectations.
We're supposed to show the transition between sadness (where there's long, descriptive paragraphs), and fear (where the convict suddenly comes in, and there's lots of speech).

I tried drawing the main character Pip, but I'm not sure it shows this transition properly, so I need some help....is there anyway I can improve this, and make it more clear? Or do you think it's ok?

The blue is the sadness, and the red is the fear. Pip's taken off his face / mask, exposing the "raw" emotion underneath, but he's trying to hide it. I drew the red / fear starting to take over, and just beginning to overpower the blue / sadness, but idk.....

Thanks so much!!

While you do have an interesting and meaningful piece I couldn't quite make the connection between fear overtaking sadness until I read your explanation, which is something you don't want happening.
Art is difficult to interpret, but as your piece is for an English task where it may be seen by teachers who are not used to interpreting art, you should try to make the concept as clear and immediate as possible. You don't want to use words to explain the concept in your art, because if you have to do that it means that you're not confident in your piece's ability to portray this idea. (Bad wording there. Hope it's not too hard to understand)
You have used blue to represent sadness and red to represent fear which I think is good, because those colours are commonly linked with those emotions. I haven't read the book so I'm not sure of the circumstances of the transition, but perhaps make your idea of 'red taking over' more obvious. I'm not sure what the symbolism of the lines in the background are, especially the blue one as it 'crosses his mind' (literally) although it represents sadness.

Your piece definitely has potential. I'd suggest just make the concept a bit more obvious. Hope this helped and good luck :)

Thank you very much!! I will attempt to do this ^~^

And there's no real meaning to the lines in the background.... xD
Sadness was his initial emotion, so it's at the top I guess....idk maybe I should remove that part haha
