Hey everyone!

I just got my copy (finally!) in the mail today after being in transit heck, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on villagers moving in etc (like avoiding Random moveins, tools I should craft, how to get diy recipes basically and what I should know before getting too far)

I heard that you can avoid random ones (homes) with Tom if you go to nook islands and invite them before talking to him is this true with all plots?

If so, is this limited to 1 invite a day or 3? because I read that if you don’t it, it will be random (I know islands and moveins are random, but still...xD)

I basically need tips for how this works, and if there’s anything else I should know for my first few days

I know how to get blathers, so I’m good on that end. (Have him set up already)

TL;DR any tips for the first few days?

1. you can only get your first three villagers from the islands, afterwards, you won't be able to see any villagers on these islands for a while (i think). the personalities of the first three villagers are locked: lazy, peppy, and normal. It's not limited to one day, you can invite villagers until tom nook asks you to set down three plots.

2. harvest! you're going to need a lot of material as you're starting off, and it's good to take advantage of all the resources you have.

3. always talk to your villagers and explore your island for any onshore. that's how i got half of my diys.

4. craft all the tools you can since you're going to be needing them to further along with the story line.

that's all i think of atm, but i'm very excited to see you start playing! have as much fun as you can

1. Pay off the 5,000 Miles debt first day; should take no more than two hours.
2. When you are to plot three homes, they are entirely random. However, inviting villagers from Nook Miles Ticket islands 'registers' them for these plots. You may invite them as much as you please in a single day, until you invite 3 villagers.
3. Purchase the better tools recipe and pocket expansion ASAP.

I did not want randoms for the first 3 villagers to move in, and found that if you hold off on giving Timmy what he needs for building the shop, you can visit as many nook islands as you want (for as many days as you want) until you find desired villagers. This way you won't get randoms, as you won't be setting up the 3 home plots until after the shop is unlocked.

I think the first three villagers to move in will always be a normal, peppy, and lazy. This has been my experience, at least.

Tap A to craft faster, it saves so much time...

I have found diy recipes in a bottle on the beach everyday, and some from balloons as well. You can buy the slingshot recipe from Timmy. Sometimes the nook islands will have bottle messages as well.

This is what I found in my experience, it could be different!

you can completely avoid random villagers if you ask 3 villagers (can be all in the same day or spread out) to move to your island. you have until the day after you build the nook's cranny shop to ask all the villagers you want to move in, otherwise one or more of them will be random. (for example i asked marina to move to my island and left the other two up to chance).

the way it works is tom nook will ask you to set up the plots for their homes (he will give you all 3 plots and setup kits) along with lists of 6 items you need to craft for each plot before they will move in. you will need to set up all three plots before any villagers move in (at least in my experience, i set up all plots in one day), and the villagers will move in in the order you asked them to your island.

as for diy recipes and tools, make sure that you have lots of materials on you at all times (i carry a stack of 30 of rocks, iron, all kinds of wood, and sticks) recipes can come from villagers, from messages in bottles, from npcs, and from balloon presents. for the villager home plots, you will be given all recipes needed for them to move in, so you don't have to worry about that. and as for tools, i just carry one of every tool available to me (right now i carry fishing rod, net, watering can, ladder, shovel, stone axe, regular axe, and vaulting pole at all times)

hope that helps! good luck with your island ^^

Thanks for the help everyone, it did help and was able to get everything done for day one!

I guess since it’s day 2 I can finally fly somewhere :D

If not time traveling, I suggest progressing as far as possible per day.

Day 1
Pay off your tent (Get Away Package)
Donate everything you can to Nook. Doing so, Nook will ask you to set up a Museum tent for Blathers.
Plot the Museum.

Day 2.
Donate as much as possible to Blathers so he will start on the museum construction.
Collect all resources needed for Nook's Cranny
Plott Nook's Cranny.

Day 3.
Plot homes for 3 new villagers.
Build all of their furniture and get approval from Nook.

That should be it for the first 3 days. If you fail to do the 2 tasks for day 1, you may not be tasked with building Nook's Cranny the following day.

If you fail any of these, you may not get the Town Hall as early as possible.

If you're having trouble finding good villagers to invite on island tours, you can use a resetting trick for the 3 houses Nook has you plot out and supply. What you're doing is turning in the last furniture, telling nook, then checking the name on the sign and resetting if you don't like it. You should do this one house at a time, so you can lock in each villager before moving onto the next.

Start: all 3 houses are plotted and have all their 6 furniture built. All of the outdoor furniture is in place and you have checked the checklist to make sure it counts as being close enough to the house. You've dropped the 3 interior furniture items in front of each house, having NOT turned it in yet.

Step 1: pick up the 3 interior furniture items for one house

Step 2: wait for autosave to show in top right corner

Step 3: quickly turn in the 3 furniture items

Step 4: go to Nook and let him know. He will tell you their name will appear on the front of the house

Step 5: check the "sold" sign on the front of the house to see the villager name

Step 6: if you don't like the villager, press the home button and close the game, then reload. If you like the villager, then move on to do step 1-6 for the next house

MAKE SURE you wait for the autosave after you load back into the game. The game will always show the save load in the top right corner when you load the game, but you need to wait for it to happen during gameplay (while you're standing outside the planned villager's house). Otherwise, it might autosave while you talk to Nook, in which case it will lock the villager in, even if you haven't yet told him that you finished the house.

You can go through this process quite quickly and without using up Nook Miles, and at least avoid uggos.
