New Horizons house debate

no u can still use it to get rid of the food buff. i used to think it wasnt handy until i accidentally obliterated one of my rocks forgetting i had it on me. rest in pieces my rock 3-20-2020 to 3-22-2020.

Literally.....

For some reason the wallpaper in this game totally changes the windows of the room as well. Some wallpapers just get rid of it altogether, which is really annoying because, there are nice wallpapers, but they don't come with windows. I would've preferred wallpapers didn't affect the house so much

im also replying to this thread too much im just on a role today ig. i hate this so much! real life houses dont just have completely different windows. i want to use tile in my bathroom but it makes the windowsill white and some of my other rooms dont have white windowsills. so frustrating. i hope there's a wide variety of wallpapers to choose from so i can find some i like that match each other (window-wise).

i actually really enjoy the smaller room sizes, as i like a cozy realistic home! however, i donnnn't like that we don't get a choice in room addition order as i just wanted a main, back, and upstairs room but i had to get the side rooms first

it's not a big deal though! there's a lot of cute furniture so i'll at least have good items to fill up the rooms

I wish the house can look bigger from outside after you upgrade so much. But still look very small

Ugh. :( Don't get me started.

I wish they would at least give the option for those who are not personally satisfied with these room sizes. I always do my rooms a specific little way and now it's kind of axed from the weird restrictions placed on room size. I would really love it if they fixed this in an update but I HIGHLY doubt they would just for the apparent minority who are bothered by this. Happy for ya'll who are okay with it though.

my problem is not much the rooms size (I always used tiny ones) but the imposed order
why I should necessary update the back room if I want just a room in the left corner?
in new leaf I had even a character with just the second floor

I'm sort of torn.

On one hand, I like smaller spaces irl and think I'll have an easier time filling and decorating smaller rooms. In both WW and NL, every single room in my main house turned into a bedroom (with an entire set of furniture), because the rooms were too large to use as just a bathroom, living room or kitchen. I did make excellent use of my side character's houses and large rooms, though, as I liked to build schools or other types of themes that needed lots of space.

On the other hand, while I think I can make a great main house now, there's no way I could make a themed building like a school (or onsen, etc.). There just isn't enough space in the smaller side rooms for things like a science classroom, teacher's lounge, lunchroom, band room, etc.

Overall, I wish we had been able to choose our house's layout, room shape (ie. rectangualr or square), and room size to allow for a variety tastes and ideas.

I'm pretty sad cause a couple of the themed rooms I had in mind have to be modified due to the smaller size of the additional rooms.

The rooms in NL were always too big and awkward for me. I haven't upgraded my house much in NH yet, but I definitely like the sound of smaller rooms. I hated trying to make a bathroom that was enormous...I never knew how to make it look right.

Ideally though, I think it would be nice if the rooms were larger for those who want them big. But after we fully paid off the house I'd love the option to downgrade to a previous size.

I find it disappointing, yes, but what I really dislike is the exterior customizations like the sweets series being gone. I hope those are back someday!

maybe it'll be a holiday exclusive??? im hoping that since holidays are longer we actually get more stuff from them, and housing customization things would be cool. it would make them kinda rare.

I found the 6x6 and 10x6 rooms kinda jarring at first, but only because I didn’t expect to see it. It’s not a bad change, and I’d even say it’s pretty realistic (considering real houses don’t have rooms that are all the exact size and shape). It’ll definitely make things like creating a bathroom easier to do, and it won’t look as silly.

It's actually really grown on me. Having more options would be nice but I've actually started to realise just how much having to have six rooms of identical shape and size was so... boring in NL. Seriously. I like the new variety!
I also like the lack of focus on the house and my means to do as I please with it. No pressure to have a bed in every room for max HH points. I can build a (functioning, thanks to the hunger + toilet system) bathroom without feeling like I've wasted space!

I can actually live with the sizes of the rooms, as I also had only small rooms in New Leaf. Only thing that I find kinda dumb is that Nook just adds a room to your house but you can't decide if you want that room or not? Like for example, if I only want to keep the main room, the room in the back as well as the second floor, I can't get rid off the rooms on the left and right side? Or do you have to unlock this feature?

I just found out about this fact yesterday and it kinda bothers me to be honest. Found a nice wallpaper and used it, but then I noticed that the room suddenly got pretty dark and when I looked around, I realized that the windows were gone. Used the previous wallpaper the room had and the windows were back. I also noticed that depending what kind of wallpaper you use, the windows either getting louvres, curtains or nothing at all. Kinda wish you could decide this on your own, as I would like to use curtains and not what the wallpaper pretends.

I only have the main room and a back room, so far, but I visited Harvey's, and I think that's the same layout we'll eventually get. I'm basing it off of that.

I like it. I had expanded all of my rooms to the fullest in NL (and all my other games, really), but I sort of regretted not having a smaller room that would be cozy. It took a bit of work to make my basement into the library/study I wanted. Now we have some nice open rooms and others that are a bit smaller, just like a real house. I'm looking forward to it and may change up the usual way I categorize my rooms.

For me, I always liked having huge rooms or at least the option to do so, if only to use them for storage for rare/exclusive/event stuff (even if the storage system takes care of that to some extent, but I'd still like to show off my collections of stuff) and the smaller rooms just feel too... restrictive. Hope there will be an option later that gives you a choice to upgrade rooms and make them bigger...

As for exteriors, also hoping there will be an option to change that stuff around - with all the customization and crafting, why not extend that to your own house?

As for the wallpapers, I kinda like the change and see what they're going for. though might be nice to have an option for using them with windows for those who preferred the old style

I think I can appreciate that. I've always used homes as just that, homes, but with bigger space, I can see how some people use that to their advantage, and it can be jarring when they start treating your house like a home again.

What I don't really love is that all the rooms have different shapes and sizes. I have gotten used to decorating with the same large box, haha. I don't like that I can't expand the room though, and I must say, the 2.2 million dollar basement seemed a bit pricey
