New Leaf physical and digital copy

Hi guys, I have a bit of a dilemma here. Does Animal Crossing NL save onto the physical card of the game or the SD card? I know the digital version saves onto the SD card as a save file so the save would automatically save for that. Just need a bit of clarification really, and if the physical copy does save to the cart, then I could possibly offer some time travelling and villager trade off services so any help would be great for everyone

You asked exactly the same thing in the question thread but:
Physical is saved to the cartridge. Digital is saved to the SD card.
