I know they show villagers in the trailer and I think in that gameplay as well, but are they villagers?

My thought is... We are cleaning up a deserted island. Sure we are making it habitable or whatever, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around people living there. I'd say it could be just an island getaway and that's what scares me.

What if the villagers aren't villagers at all. What if the houses we saw in the trailer don't belong to them? What if they are vacationers on our island and are only there temporarily? We're a tropical resort or something and they just booked us through AirBNB. As silly as that sounds, I think there's a chance of it being plausible.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think this could be an actual thing? Why or why not? What are your thoughts on this as a whole?

For me I hope this isn't the case. I actually want them to stay. I want actual villagers to move onto the island. Not sure how I'd feel if this turned out to be true.

I hope its the same as before but you just have to build everything from scratch

Their houses progress from tents to actually built homes according to the treehouse footage. Also see this. Essentially confirmed that they live on your island full time.

i think the more you work up your little island, more villagers may start arriving via plane or boat, kinda like getting your campsite in pc ready for a specific villager so they can be invited. maybe the island will be like a tourist destination

Hmm. That's interesting. I'm pretty sure you'll have permanent villagers on your island but maybe there'll be visitors/tourists as well? Maybe you can ask the visitors/tourists to move in?

Yeah I'm pretty sure they are not removing the core aspect of the game.
It will all be fine!

I don't think the whole "vacationer" thing is the case and even it was I dont think it would be much different than it is now.

Villagers in new Leaf ask to move all the time and all you gotta do is say no and they'll stay.

Yeah I think villagers will be permanent but the way they move in and how we can influence their plots is what I’m interested in. I’m guessing their “plots” appear as tents to begin with and as you develop the town or trigger some sort of dialogue to make them move in permanently, then you can build them an actual house and choose where they live (godddd let us choose where they live please). The villagers you don’t want in town will be shipped off by plane or boat or however they got there! XD

I'm not concerned at all that villagers won't be permanent. There would be way too much of a backlash to such a feature. In all likelihood they would make it easier to keep villagers in your town. They already increased the time it takes for a villager to think about moving in Welcome Amiibo, so now that they have a new game to work with, they could take that common complaint of villagers moving out into account. Though that's just pure speculation on my part.

I get the feeling that you'll basically turn the island into a town like the towns in previous games. Just instead of having lots of houses and shops and things already built, and villagers already living there when you first start the game, you start with nothing and build everything from the ground up. Just my intuition.
