Rico island journal

I'm starting this island journal to participate in the recent event for island blogging.
To start off here's some basic island info.

Island name: Rico island or Rico for short. This name is a reference to Ricco harbor from super mario sunshine on the game cube. I chose this name to keep with the theme of naming my towns after Nintendo games locations after I named my new leaf town Hyrule. I realized later on that I had misspelled the name but I couldn't bring myself to reset and now it's become something that makes Rico, well Rico.
Native fruit: Cherry. I was very happy to get cherries on my first try because they are my favorite fruit.
Native flowers: Roses and windflowers
Time zone: Central time (GMT -6) but I keep my time 5-9 hours behind because I tend to play later at night. I time travel as needed.
Airport color: Blue. I was also happy to get this first try as I prefer it to the other available colors.

I don't have a complete dreamy list yet but I'm aiming for at least one of each personality.

This is my current map which is very unfinished; the dream address even more so. I hope to work on it in the next few weeks but I doubt I'll fully finish it. The theme I'm going to have for Rico is a tropical resort of sorts with lots of attractions. I started this island on release day for acnh as I pre-ordered a physical copy and got a cool poster! I'll introduce the human residents another day but my resident representative is Annabell. My house is the one in the center of the island surrounded by rivers. It was previously a natural island within the island that I shaped a bit and was the main reason I chose this map to begin with.

January 14 2023

Today was the fishing tourney; a good day to start an island journal with so many things to do. Now, I've already got all the fishing tourney prizes so I didn't need to participate but I did just for fun and to see how I well I could do. I got a high score of seven on my second attempt and did a third to use up my points and get another prize.

The prizes I got were a blue anchor statue, a white fishing rod holder and a marine pop wall.

Of course I checked the mail today and saw that Eugene sent me a gift. Aww thanks Eugene!

Afterwards I sat on my secret beach and watched the beautiful billow clouds; enjoying that event day weather.

Then I did some weed cleanup and fossil hunting. I also found some gyroids; it must have rained. And then I tended to my gold rose garden. I'm not sure yet what I want to do with them so I've just been selling the flowers at nooks for a tidy price. I believe i have 47 plants right now.

Then I made a perfect snowman which surprised me because I forgot to measure the head but I felt it was the right size and sure enough it was! I took off my hat to use my ears to measure the snowballs.

I went to a NMT island and a Kapp'n island but nothing exciting there although I did get a new recipe for a bamboo drum on the Kapp'n island. Talked to some villagers and finished finding all of the fossils so I took them to Blathers to be assessed. Then while I was there I decided to grab a coffee from Brewster. Tomorrow will likely be a lot of cleanup as keen eyes may have spotted my christmas decorations from last event still up and I also have decorations from halloween and who knows what else ^-^; but for today I think that's more than enough!

Ahh, sleeping in. Anyway today I did some cleaning and redecorating of my house so I'll give a bit of a tour here but first... the mail.

Zucker... why... I had to touch this. Also I took too long getting dressed apparently and Marina dropped in for a visit. Marina I was going to decorate...

After Marina left I got straight to designing my main room which is my living room normally but is also my holiday/ event room whenever the season is right. For now until February at least it can finally be just a plain living room. I went with a more modern style which I don't usually go for in my main room but I like how it came out!

Shrunk, my beloved. I miss you. After I was finished I decided to work on my back room next which hasn't been touched for a very long time

Now, my left room was already complete however I did put the yoga mat in today. I gotta say I think this is my favorite room in the house. (Although the garden comes close now!)

Next up is my bedroom upstairs which was also finished. On the left you'll see Shrunk Rocky my pet rock! I've had him (and kept him separate from other, lesser rocks!) Since the start of my island. Villagers come and go, but Rocky will always be there for me❤

And then I started to think about what to do with my craft room on the right and decided I'd turn it into a kitchen which I... didn't finish because I didn't have what I needed But I found out I could order it in HHP! But I didn't have it unlocked... But! I had the amiibo card for somebody that unlocked it! So I made Bettina a vacation home. And she mentioned a temptation gnome??? Idk what THAT'S supposed to mean but idk if I want to...

I didn't spend too much time on this as I'm practically falling asleep sitting up right now but I do like what I did with the outside. I may redo it later on but I got what I needed ordered and it should arrive tomorrow. Also I forgot to get a pic of the upstairs but it's just a simple bedroom.

Finally I did most of my dailies and saw Zucker over at Rasher's house. Rasher dressed up for the occasion

And I wasn't planning on sharing this but I went to a Kapp'n island on a whim and it was full of money trees! I've never seen that before! They all had three 1,000 bell bags on them. Tomorrow I'll hopefully finish up with my house and get to work on the outside.

I miss warmer weather. Today Isabelle announced that Redd was here so I went to check it out after getting the mail. He was selling three fakes and a genuine flowery painting. I picked that up because I haven't got one for my museum yet.

Then I walked around and talked to my villagers and did my dailies. Cobb was making an orange tart but I already had the recipe. I saw Zucker with a thought bubble wanting to move but of course that's not going to happen. Not today squid boy.

My items arrived for my crafting room so I started to work on that and decided to make a kitchen.

I had to keep the crafting table but I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with how it fits yet. Otherwise I like how it came together. And I love Resetti's poster; it's so chaotic.

And then I finally got around to finishing my basement. I didn't really have an idea for it and I'll probably change it eventually but for now it's sorta like a second bedroom/ 1 room apartment... thing. It has "College dorm" vibes with the sloppy furniture. I kinda like it though.

I also found an oinkoid because it snowed yesterday. It's so funny looking, all squished like that.

I'm hoping this coffee will wake me up. I did some work on the outside of my house and I'm happy with how the campfire looks but I'm thinking of finding a different path design or even making one myself. And then I've just put in a little flower garden on the left.

Then I found Eugene and Cobb having some kind of soup meet in the plaza. I wish I had some soup... I ran around and Octavian had a thought bubble so I talked to him and gave him permission to move out.

Then I talked to Joey who wanted to eat the clouds. Idk why, they look soggy to me. Talked to Katrina and apparently I'll have bad luck with health today but that's ok because I can buy a lucky charm.

I've been busy the last few days but I finally got a chance to play today. Tammy asked to come over and hang out at my place. She gave me a monocle and then challenged me to high card low card which I lost but honestly it was 2. How was I to know the next card would be 1 Anyway today was also the day that Octavian moved out. I think it was pushed back because I hadn't played yet but he should be out now, and someone new should be moving in!

Pretty eventful day with Gullivaar also stopping by. Of course I looked for his phone and I'm excited to see what he sends me tomorrow.

As I was looking for his communicator I found a scallop and gave it to Pascal who just gave me a pearl... I want your recipes dangit! But he did also give me some... interesting advice so it's all good.

Got some coffee at Brewster's and Wilbur was there for a break. All according to regs of course.

Afterwards I did some group stretching because I neglect it frequently And even Gullivaar joined in!

Then I made another perfect snowman, really because I felt like it but also because I realized I need to for miles rewards. I didn't even try to measure so I think I'm getting good at this!

But of course the day wouldn't be complete without checking the mail so let's see what my lovely friends have sent me toda-

I do not know what a "Floor vampire" is but I am certain I don't want to. Thanks Flora for that new found fear She did give me a mama panda to protect myself through. I also did some work around my entrance but I didn't like it so I ended up tearing it down so I'll have to try again another day.

Exciting things happen when the hard hat comes out. This was totally posted on the 25th and definitely not 1am the next day where did you get that idea?
I was very busy today and I got a lot done so this will be long.

For starters, Rasher came over while I was getting dressed (I've got to stop changing in my living room... and don't mind the monocle!)

He gave me a peach and we played some games and jammed to my favorite song K.K. Robot synth.

Label was in the plaza today and she wanted me to wear something "Outdoorsy" and gave me a muscle tank so I made an outfit around it but it was much too cold so I changed back right after. She gave me some "Label's pumps" in purple as thanks.

Went around and talked to my villagers and... what's with lazies and eating weird foods? (or non-foods?) Stop eating shells and life rings!

On a more exciting note, Lucha moved into Octavian's old spot. Although he won't be staying permanently. I also made a small perfect snowman and finally got the last Nook miles achievement for it!

Got a gallant statue from Redd for my museum and the veggie basket diy from Leif and then went off to work at HHP. Lottie was out sick so me and Niko went and designed a vacation home for Agent S.

Stop looking at me like that Agent S!! I just wanted to take pictures and you had to grab a popsicle and make it weird

And finally last but intentionally not least... I welcome you to the Rico farmers market! It took me awhile to get it how I wanted but I'm really happy with how it came out! I plan on decorating just a bit more but it's getting late so, a project for another day I suppose.
We currently have a flower stall, a Japanese food shop, a jewelry stall, a coffee shop (Brewster's got some competition!) A fruit and veggies shop and a toy store!

Did some more work with hhp today. This time it was chadder, who approached me directly. He wanted a cheese-maker's château. I kinda like it though I wasn't super inspired for the inside.

But even so, look how happy he is to have a new vacation spot!

Went around the Paradise Island getting the recipes and I went into my restaurant and... bro what? Simon are you ok?!

Flick showed up today so I spent some time catching bugs to sell because I could use them for an achievement. Then Tammy came over and she struck again on High card low card by giving me an 8 so of course I guessed low, then hit me with a 9 A little while afterwards I ran into Eugene with a thought bubble but I accidentally hit him with my net and he must have lost his train of thought. I've been trading a bit too today. And then just some little tidbits... look at this paper! Its so pretty It came from a bottle on a Kapp'n island.

And I think this may be my smallest snowman yet. Perfect naturally~ I love tiny snowmen. Best part of winter in this game honestly.

Me and Zucker had a nice time at the farmers market now that I've put in a dining area. The first thing I did today was head to Harv's to catalog Lucha's poster and while I was there I bought a schoolbag and a genuine wild painting left and got my fortune told. I predicted that I'd have good luck with health and I was right! Maybe I'M the psychic one...

Did some online trading and ran into Cobb who was very interested in the random seaweed on the beach. I also finally did some serious work on my entrance and I actually like it! I may change a few things but for now I have a pretty nice area. Also while I was doing this I was catching bugs for achievements and a dragonfly got stuck in my bridge but I got it eventually.

I also did a vacation home for Melba at HHP. She wanted a fairy tale home so I gave her a mushroom forest house.

Ran into Timmy in the roost today and also got the last Nook miles achievement for getting coffee. It was Flora's birthday today so I wrapped some peaches and went to see her. Rasher was there as well and Flora was very pleased with her party.

Then I decided to clear out my old hangout spot that needed an update. It used to be a little area where I could chill away from my villagers (the only way up was a ladder) but I decided I didn't want it anymore so I started to turn it into a farm.

It took a lot of messing around to get it to an acceptable point so I'll finish it tomorrow once the stairs are built but this is what it looks like so far!

I always wanted a little area that I could keep seasonal decorations but I built my farmers market first and later decided that was where I wanted to put my seasonal area... thing. So today I moved the entire market like 4 squares over and made my seasonal display. I also switched up the market just a bit.

It's currently set up with a little valentine's day picnic. Not exactly my favorite but it will do for now. I finished my farm from yesterday too so I just have to wait for my first harvest.

For more mundane news I got a genuine Robust statue in the mail from Zucker that I was able to donate and a potato curry recipe from Marina that I was missing. I also got a brewstoid from Brewster!

Label was here as well and she gave me a poncho coat and told me to dress "fairy tale." I decided to go with a red riding hood costume instead. This is the last entry I need for the event so updates will be sparse from here on out but I am updating the map on the main post. This has been pretty fun though and I hope you've enjoyed this little tour of Rico!

I probably won't continue it after the ten days are up but

Lol. Lmao. Anyway. HAPPY EASTER! I actually did some things. Firstly I updated my seasonal decor to Easter themed by my entrance.

It rained for a bit and I ran into Joey wearing the exact outfit as me. Twinning!

Spent some time relaxing with Cephalobot at HHP.

Updated my passport and I adore this photo It's so cute! And I just love the flowers in the background. But more importantly I did some major renovation for a section of my island! The thing I'm most excited to show. For some reason I didn't think to take a before photo so the best I have is this one from halloween. Short Jack lol.

But what once was a mess of unsorted flowers is now a beautiful flower garden!

I now have three flowerbeds, a seasonal Easter garden display, a pergola, a picnic spot and an outdoor theater!

I'm immensely happy with how it came out! I've also done some better planning of future projects and my head's full of ideas so hopefully I can keep up the pace and get ever closer to a finished island!

I live! I've been motivated to play acnh again for a bit and got some more work done on my island. Starting with a new rock garden! I did this first because I knew that I'd need to cover my island to manipulate rock placement and it actually didn't take too long. Maybe a couple hours total. I'm not sure about this path yet and I intend to decorate more but I have the base part set up which is exciting! No more hunting for the money rock!

Not much else happening today. Did some cleaning of old seasonal decor and the aftermath of the rock garden. I also decorated a few locations around town but nothing's quite finished so I'll have to post that another time but Marina came over for a visit and gave me a bicycle helmet.

I also updated the main post with a new map and current villagers! One of these days I may post older pics as a kind of archive of my island.

I had guests over for a game of Hide and seek for the TBTWC and I wanted to share my favorite, last minute, distraction decorations! But first a quick news update.

Ankha visited the campsite and after much convincing is now moving in! She'll be replacing Joey which I didn't prefer, but he was the first non permanent resident she suggested. I'll have to update the main post later to reflect that change.

My first area is this little Halloween section that I actually ended up liking more than I thought I would. It won't be staying permanently but I think I'll keep it for a bit. It's not like I have anything else to put there right now anyway

The next is just a small sign that I was hoping someone would run into and think it was a person. That's not what happened but it was pretty funny anyways.

The last (and definitely my fave) is the crab rave! This was centered entirely on me finding that sign and by chance having a collection of crabs in storage. This will absolutely be staying as a feature on my island although I'll probably tweak it a bit with placement and/or crab variety if I can nab a few more. The main reason I wanted to post here was because I love this so much haha
