Nintendo confirms to IGN that there will be no further paid DLC

That's... honestly surprising. With that confirmation, plus Nintendo themselves confirming that this free update will be the last major free update, I feel like they're telling us this is it. I feel like minor free updates would just be bug fixes and holiday additions for the most part.
I guess this free update + the DLC are like the equivalent of the WA update for NL? Like the last hurrah?

So most likely future updates will be to activate holidays and maybe a few bug fixes. With how much they have added I am not surprised, and not disappointed. I am happy with everything they are adding.

Im kinda suprised that there will be no more updates other than holiday and bug fixes. I really hope that isn’t the case and they give us smaller updates.

I’m thrilled with today’s direct, but it does feel kind of weird to wait almost two years for a meaningful update, get everything dumped in at once, and then be told “okay the game is now dead to us forever.” Kinda wanted to believe other future updates might have some substance to them? Why make this an update-reliant game if they were going to save up all the new features for two years and then immediately stop updating? It’s hard to ride the high of this huge update knowing this is now going to be the game’s final form and there’s no chance for anything else. Not really what I pictured when they promised “a few years of update support,” but hey, at least I’m happy about most of what was added!
I was wondering if they'll plan to release a new physical version with the DLC.
I thought they didn't announce it in this Direct because new DLCs were coming, but if the information is true and since they didn't talk about a new physical version I guess it won't happening
Because I hesitate whether or not I should buy the DLC now with an eshop card I have, or wait for a new physical version, because I prefer having everything on the cartdrige if possible

Really upset that we will never get a reason to play multiplayer in this game.
But the game is still going to be the best in the series now with no doubts regardless.

Yea, there really should be a multiplayer DLC before they decide to stop all updates. Its really unfortunately that a feature like multiplayer wasn't expanded more. Such a lost opportunity.

Yea I was really hopping we would get mini games at some point. It’s weird we didn’t even get the coffee mini game. Those and a few more villagers plots and this game would of been perfection. I do agree , with the update it is now best in the series.
They just said the last major update in the direct.
I wouldn't expect much otherwise, as we aren't entirely sure what they considered major vs not at this point, but there will still be some updates from here, whatever they may be.
I'm not overly fussed about the Roost minigame as I always found it very shallow and if I'm honest... I googled the answers XD
But its absence is strange regardless
But I really am sad my dreams of playing with my friend again have been crushed.
Maybe the new items will inspire us to redesign and trade again

wow unexpected o: i thought for sure they would do a few more paid features including a minigame island to visit with friends. that would be a great reason for people to continue to buy online subscriptions. i still hope they release a way to silence the background music like the game was before upgrading your island

Agreed. I honestly never played the mini-game anymore when I unlocked everything that it gave me.
One thing I am curious about though is if The Roost includes the to-go coffee. I thought it was always cute to carry that around in-game.
Or maybe they're working on Splatoon 3. I think the AC team usually works on the Splatoon games, and we know Splatoon 3 is coming out sometime (probably late) next year.
True, it may not be front-burner materiel until that game at least goes live. However, I’m guessing the next Animal Crossing game is already in some stage of motion, though I honestly have no idea where they can take the franchise from here!
