Nintendo confirms to IGN that there will be no further paid DLC

IIRC Happy Home Designer was $40 when it first came out on the 3DS. I personally thought I got my money's worth out of it when it came out. Granted, it wasn't as big of a value as NL, which I put many more hours into. But it was still fun.

Compared to that, I feel like this DLC is reasonably priced. It seems like it has all of the features of HHD except integrates them into a mainline AC game. Not only that, but they added new features (like the partition walls and columns) that didn't exist in HHD.

I'm sure people expected/hoped for a $5-10 DLC, but this does have more content than a $5-10 DLC would probably have in it.

Again, I'm totally fine with paid DLC that brings even more massive playability to the and/or feels like it's own game. This dlc reminds me of the Pokemon Sword/Shield expansion packs which Nintendo could have also just milked as a third installment seperate game for that generation.

The paid DLC I absolutely despise are the ones that don't bring much to the table (i.e. battle passes or fighter passes found in some fighting games that only give the player access to a few new weapons or playable characters).

Basically, I'm fine with paid DLC that makes me feel like I am embarking on a whole new adventure, but I don't want small things like a couple of items or some new cosmetic thing. The latter feels more fitting inside of a run-of-the-mill free mobile game and just bogs down "AAA" titles.

this may seem like a silly question, but... 🥴 when they say ''paid'' dlc... what does the ''paid'' part mean?

Sometimes I don´t understand Nintendos update policy.

I mean... not releasing any new content for more than a year and then throwing out everything at once saying "that is it" - what is their goal behind that? They get hype for sure - but I don´t now if that is enough to get all the players back that stopped playing a while ago because nothing new happened. Especially from now on.... well... nothing else will happen...

They could have added Tortimer around winter; the new cooking and harvesting feature around october/november; the cafe and Harveys island in another month...

I am also a bit confused because they always promised 3 years of new content, right?

Not saying I don´t like the update. I played the game since release. But I doubt that more casual players will no return.

To the best of my knowledge you can either purchase Happy Home's Paradise once from the Nintendo eShop meaning it'll be yours to keep forever (it's also the best option if you only have one Nintendo Switch/Lite) or you pay for it via the subscription service which is mostly used by those who have multiple devices. Also (I think) it means if you have multiple players on your island they'll all be able to access the HHP expansion pack but if you stop paying for the subscription you either won't be able to play the game anymore or you won't have access to updates such as bug fixes etc.

yes, i only have one switch at the moment ^^

I'm kinda disappointed because this means that we won't get any more returning villagers. None of the new villagers or the ones they did choose are super appealing to me...and I guess I'm kind of bitter about it. I don't have a Gamecube or a Wii anymore so NH was finally my chance to see my old villagers that got abandoned, but...we didn't get that. That's the one part of the direct I disliked and learning that there's going to be no more major updates is a huge turn-off for me.

I'm really surprised to read this. I thought that they were planning on doing a couple more things, although I don't know what. I suppose something with multiplayer in mind, really expanding that. But this isn't truly upsetting or anything. For everything we got so far and everything that's coming with this update and paid DLC, I can honestly say that we've gotten a lot for our money. How many other games do you spend $60 for and play as many hours as you have so far? And think about how many more hours you can spend after this $30 for the DLC. That's a lot.

What I am surprised about is to read more complaining. This just goes back to the point I've made a couple of times this past year. No matter what happens, people seem to always find things to be dissatisfied with. I know if I were a developer, and I had to see all these people ripping on a game that I was a part of, I'd be ready to just dump everything else in and walk away. Just give it all and wash my hands of it. I also wouldn't be too keen on working on the next Animal Crossing entry for quite a while. And given how long we went between NL and NH, I really think people shouldn't be expecting anything for some time...

That's a shame and wasted opportunity, oh well, what can you do... just two Paid DLCs would do it, the one that is coming and the other consisting of minigames and more multiplayer experience, HHP looks fun though.

maybe if this DLC sells well, maybe they will change their minds, but if there would be one more paid DLC, the next one would be last.

Huh, I was under the impression that the clarified 'last big free update' meant we would be getting more future paid dlcs, but just one? We're still missing alot that can't possibly be covered in smaller updates!

It’s unfortunate but Nintendo has done this with other titles, like Mario Maker 2.
