We will know more about the new console on April 2, 2025 with a Nintendo Switch 2 dedicated Nintendo Direct.

The trailer teases mouse functionality for the new JoyCons. It also confirms backward compatibility with Nintendo Switch 1 games.

I don't keep up with leaks so this was a pleasant surprise! The wait until the Switch 2 Direct is going to be agonizing, though. I hope they talk about the release titles then, too.

have to say i was also majorly underwhelmed. the only thing that interested me even a little was the brief MK9 gameplay, because i've been waiting forever for a new mario kart, but even then, it didn't really look any different from MK8. it's certainly going to take seeing/hearing more about what sets it apart to entice me to buy. everything else was kind of... meh. i remember seeing the leak about the joycons functioning like a mouse, and it didn't really interest me -- it's probably a functionality i'd try to avoid using lol. idk it just felt like a LOT of padding to show off a design that doesn't really look much different from the pre-existing console. i thought the direct about it was set for the start of next month until i realized i was watching a nintendo of america video, and it's actually april rip which seems insanely far away considering all the leaks etc. especially.

There she is! It's looking very sleek. I like the design choices they made here. I hope that drift issue has been fixed. The name is super lame though tbh. I'm excited to see the game roster for this! Sucks to wait til April for more news but whatever lol.

Not different enough to wow me, but hopefully has greater processing power

The new mario kart looks to have 24 starting spots, looking forward to double the chaos in TBTWC lol

i saw someone else point that out on twitter! online about to go crazy lmao, i have a hard time making up positions once i get knocked far enough down the back, can imagine how much more chaotic it'll be to do with 24 drivers 😭

lowkey underwhelmed because they seem to be giving it the wii u treatment, and by that i mean is that it’s very similar to the original and the main appeal is that it has new games. excited for the launch titles tho, loving the sleeker design.

however i guess im being too harsh because this is basically what every other video game company does, same name, same thing, new games, better processing power.

The 2 in the name should avoid that confusion because it implies that it's a successor. The problem with Wii U is that many people thought it was an accessory for the Wii.
I thought the Wii U was an accessory for months until I saw the last Direct that came out right before it launched. I most likely won’t buy the console for at least six months after it launches.

Ohhh that makes sense, I didn’t know that

I need to know how much it's going to cost, how really powerful it is, and if Switch Online gets a massive upgrade since it was so underwhelming on the original Switch. Finally I need to see what games will be launching on the Switch 2 I know Mario Kart 9 is confirmed to be one of them but I still need to see more. The Switch 2 looks great but I still need to see more information on it before I make my decision on getting it.

We need a game roster!! Does anyone have any guesses?

I would guess a new Smash Brothers game. There has been one on every console since the N64.

I feel less certain but I would hope for a new Animal Crossing. The series has really grown in popularity so I don't see why they wouldn't make another.

And of course, a new 3D Mario platformer.

gotta admit though that "Switch 2" still comes across as somewhat lazy and uninspired lol.

my expectations were pretty low for this console, so I'm not surprised. I'm really just hoping for 1. backward compatability, and 2. better battery life and processing power. I think I'm at a point in Nintendo's life where I would rather stick with their older games and consoles. but I am pretty interested in seeing what new titles will be released for this console (especially a new 3D Mario game that, hopefully, doesn't disappoint me as much as Odyssey did).

One thing I noticed about the Switch 2 and its relation to the Switch is that it continues a long tradition of Nintendo consoles where every two consoles are from the same family.
  • The NES and SNES were both Nintendo Entertainment Systems.
  • The Nintendo 64 and GameCube may be mostly irrelevant until you consider the number of controller slots, how the controllers are designed, and what kind of games are being played on them.
  • The Wii and Wii U were both from the Wii Family.
  • And now, the Switch and Switch 2 have similar concepts.
The same can also be said about their handhelds, which were the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance, and the DS and 3DS
